I have an old USB to Serial cable from Radio Shack sitting around and was wondering whether I can make a ECM spy cable out of it (before I buy one for 50$ on ebay). It provides the 5V and Vista recognizes a virtual COM4, but when I try to connect send, receive and ground (DB9)to my X1, nothing happens. Neither on ecmspy.com nor on here could I find any more tips. What am I missing? Thanks for your help, guys! |

Your absolutely sure it is a 5V TTL cable? I've personally never seen one at RS. |

well, the output voltage is between 5 and 6V, normally USB puts out 12V, right? But I guess you are right and the problem lies in the RS cable... |

I would ask Al at American Sport Bike as he makes his own and sells them |

You can also make your own. http://mouser.com/Search/ProductDetail.aspx?qs=sGA EpiMZZMtf8aSAtgR7DtM6b7hTwLVv Your cable.... http://www.deutschconnector.com/products/deutsch_d t_4-way_connectors.html Third item down is your connector. Should save a few bucks. |

i've been told SPECIFICLY over and over that radio shack does NOT carry the correct cable... looks similar... but it will not work with our bikes. I'm not 100% on that, but i'm pretty damn sure. |

RS doesn't. I build cables on a daily basis. Just the quality of nearly anything RS sells is garbage IMO. Once I saw how much a cable ran, I knew right away I'd make my own. Too easy... |
