I had a chance to blitz to N GA with a friend with a Bonanza. We headed up late Sat afternoon. I had Sunday to play and flew home today (Monday). At 180 kts TAS it's about a 3:45 trip, about an hour less than my Tiger.

I was wondering if there would be snow on the Cherohala. No need to wonder anymore. On many stretches I was definitely SLOW Eddie, exp. with that rear tire (more below). Only saw one other bike on the whole stretch (a cruiser)

Anyway, electrics are the cat's meow. No real wind protection and temps in the 30's and between the vest and the gloves I was fine.

The Dunlop D207 is pretty much shot at 2,400 miles. Brought the wheel home and I'll be mounting an 020. Front's still fine.

The shop manual said to remove the drive belt, but it didn't seem necessary. I just removed the tensioner and that bought enough "wiggle room" to slide the belt off and the wheel out. Is that what everyone else does?

wheel change

Two issues -

1) My speedo went out - add me to the list
2) My high beam stopped working - blown 15A "Lights" fuse

After 3+ years on my BMW with NO problems, I'm not used to two issues on just one ride. Not complaining - I'll adjust. And Jose - no need to chime in/pile on.

Can't wait to get back there! C'mon springtime!

I can think of only three words: You are insane!

It's supposed to be near 50 degrees tomorrow here in Minnesota. It's look more like winter down south than up here in the northland.

In spite of the first picture, the actual road was pretty clear, with just occasional clumps of snow that were easy to avoid. I was damp in places, so I was always alert for ice. That first photo is misleading - that's actually an overlook.

It really was a gorgeous day. It was blowing snow when we left Copperhill, TN this morning.

Fast Eddie - you are Amazing Eddie! I'm impressed.

Did you have any spare fuses? Might be something to consider on my XB as well.

Great photos, thanks!

1) Yes, I've eaten Mex in Copperhill/Mackeysville - not bad! Burra Burra Mine Company wasn't great, though.

2) I normally have spares, but no 15A mini-fuses. Plugged the new one in and it didn't blow immediately - still, I wonder why it blew at all.

3) Didn't think to carry a spare speedo sensor - might not be a bad idea (right Jose?)

4) My last post should have read "IT was damp in places." The Cherohala is a very nice road, but it doesn't make me wet!

5) Now this is travelling!

Eddie,

If you can do that come on up this way next week.

Right now its snowing and expecting 10-15cm.

I find the heated gear great, if you can keep your hands and core body temp warm I find the rest of me stays pretty good.

Spare fuses? good idea.

Heated gear? WORTH EVERY PENNY!

Those pictures? PRICELESS!

Spare speedo? No, I would just plug that hole in the tranny and hook up a bicycle speedo on the bike and forget about it.

Ya know, not being familiar with that part of the country, I thought Chilly Cherohala was either a cartoon character or some bizarre fetish. Well, still searchin'...
