Bomber:

That's about as good of an analogy as one could come up with. I think that's going to become the new intro quote :)

Ferris, Do you still have the route map of Blue Groove II?

only in my head, Greg :)

now that Reg is "retired", i wish he'd put together another Blue Groove. they're a BUNCH of work, but the memories are priceless.

What ever happened to Gumby, Tony, Jack, Heidi and the rest of the gang?

Gumby's long-time friend Sharon donated one of her kidneys to the Flexible One, and i hear his health has improved remarkably. he and she are busy each riding season putting together moto-events called "ThunderCross" (similar to BattleTrax), with the proceeds going to foundations which help fight kidney disease.

haven't heard from Tony or Heidi in years, hope they're doing well. last time i saw Whacked Jack he was riding around the BattleTrax course at Old Highway 40 Motorcycle Days in Debbie Gussenhoven's leather thong bikini -- some of you may remember seeing the photo in Battle 2Win.

i guess even cops have to let their privates hang out once in awhile, eh? ;)

...And just imagine what I would have typed if I still imbibed much more than the very occasional sip or two.

Mike, you've been real quiet on the SPLASH threads, you ARE coming, right? we MUST have your humor live and in-person, and i promise not to let you sip too much (fingers crossed..................)

so Heather, back to the topic at hand (finally!)

to each his/her own, but on road-trips where i have the luxury of time (rare), i like to call it a day by 5 p.m. or so, instead of pushing until way past dark trying to reach "the next town".

why?

whether camping or hoteling, if you've shut off the ignition by 5-ish, you have time to:
--unwind
--relax
--look around
--futz on the bike
--make notes in your trip diary
--post a report on BADWEB
--get to know your next-door neighbors
--mix a drink
--take a dip in the pool (or stream)
--eyeball some of that porn your buds loaned you...
--and peruse the map for an inkling of what the next day's adventure might hold in store.

one of my favorite things to do at the end of a great day of riding is to do.......absolutely.......nothing.

sitting on the veranda of some charming bed-and-breakfast, umbrella drink in hand, belly full of the local specialty, looking out over a sea of Joshua Trees and sagebrush, with a soft, setting sun at your back, the bikes unloaded, cleaned, and ready for tomorrow, and nothing but the sound of a far-off coyote looking for mischief to break the silence, well, this is my idea of Good Stuff.

if possible, give yourself enough time at the end of each day to fully appreciate the Good Stuff.

supplies are limited, so act now.

Merry Christmas Mikej !!

And Merry Christmas to you too.

"Mike, you've been real quiet on the SPLASH threads, you ARE coming, right? "

Ferris,
If I can at all make it I will. Lots of things going on right now, and a lot will depend on Summer Semester class offerings. I have it penciled in on a calender or three. Might turn into a fly/rent/dash/long-weekend trip. Won't be able to know for certain until between April and June. I'd thoroughly enjoy riding the bike out there again, but if I did someone would have to lasso the 80+y.o.guy with the Nevada plates and the Oregon license and lock him and his pickup up in a garage until after I left the state. :) Then there's some other possibilities where I might ride out and leave one bike there, again depending on a few things panning out this Spring, or not. Too many unknowns.

Gotta run, gotta fill some empty boxes with stuff, then got to go buy a glass box and fill it with some other stuff.

MikeJ (Drive-by posting...)

I went on a 1500 mile trip once. I wore full gear (helmet, gloves, boots, leather jacket, leather pants) and carried one pair of extra socks, a credit card, and a tankbag full of tools.. You can never be too prepared.

Been meaning to scan these photos - here's what I took to CO this Sept. Did 3600 miles in 6 days, including a stop at Casa De Wilson for 2 days. Stayed in motels at night, so no camping gear. Still, I'm pretty much the anti-Blake as far as packing for a trip. I'm more in the Rick mode - cell phone and credit card. S2 in East Troy

Lil' One -
Not a recommended mode of travel - 90 degrees when I left Philly, so I dressed accordingly - 30s and windy in South Dakota and fogged/iced in in Wisconsin meant I froze my b**ls off for 2 1/2 days - I was leaning left the whole trip back, every time I hit an over/underpass and the wind would stop, I'd swerve over to the other side of the lane. Put a nice square profile on the rear tire, too :) But it was short notice, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
Nev - It was one HELL of a party.
