REQUEST and OPEN INVITE
18th of April-I am putting together a benefit ride for a local teenager, and friend of Sabrina's, who was hurt in a farming accident. Little girl was caught up in the PTO shaft and was very badly injured, bad. Planning on a car/bike show. BBQ, Poker Run, Silent auction, at least two bands, 50/50 drawing, door prizes, and more. I'm doing this in conjunction with her aunt who is doing a benefit dinner later in the day. I would like to invite my fellow buellers to come join the fun, and if you would like to help with anything, it would be much appreciated! Much help will be needed.
Hey Rubberdown, you still thinking of throwing a house warming party?

Would love to go if you weren't so far away. But I have to ask what's a PTO shaft? Hope your friend Sabrina comes out OK. BTW I love that seat on you profile pic...

Thomas, PTO = power take-off

I realize you're several thousand miles away from North Carolina, but there are other ways in which you could still support the benefit for the injured girl.

Thank you,
Ferris

I suggest you consult an accountant before you accept any money for this event. As there could be tax responsibilities (for the organizer.)

What Jerry said.... if you can work the fundraiser under the auspices of a church, which already is a tax-exempt organization, you will not have to pay taxes. Otherwise, some folks have been nailed for 10 to 20 percent taxes for being good Samaritans.

You can ask how I know: I've covered a lot of news stories with this theme....

That's just what I didn't want to happen...

A fellow on another board started a Rider Down Fund and it just about bankrupted him paying the taxes.

This is all going through the family. The money we raise on the ride/show side of it will be handed directly to the aunt who is a standing member of the family's church. I'm not to worried about that side of it, just getting some faces to come ride with us is what is important. My daughter, Sabrina, is really good friends with Katie, the girl who got hurt. Katie will try to be there for a few minutes here and there. She is very weak and has many surgeries to go through.
The PTO is a shaft that runs add-on equipment for tractors. This particular piece was a fence post digger. The PTO spins at equal speeds in conjuction with the motor. They were running at full power when her hair bow popped and her her got tangled in the shaft. Then put her hand up to TRY to pull her hair out. It was much like winding a fishing reel, only the reel didn't stop when it met flesh. I could be more graphic, but out of respect I will leave it at that.

If you come up and want to spend the night at my place, I'll cook up some steaks the night before. After the ride is over we can back out and enjoy some of the good riding at a better pace than will be carried throught the ride, there will be cruisers there after all. I might even be able to do another bon fire the night before
!

Lemme know!

I tried to find Pinehurst NC on mapquest and it shows two. One in Henderson county which is 7 hours from me and one in Moore county which is 4.5 hours from me. Can someone give me an address to put into the GPS? I should have the bike up and running this weekend and I could do a road trip for a good cause.

Moore county is correct, but I'm almost sure the ride will depart from Candor, NC. It's near the 220 and 211 intersection. I'm sure more details will be coming soon.

I just looked at the weather forecast this morning and it looks like Friday through Sunday is going to be great weather. I've scheduled a vacation day for Friday so I can take my time and ride the back roads down from Virginia.

If anybody else is heading south let me know.
