Hi all the addiction continues. Just purchased a 02 m2 cyclone and only have 3 gears can’t hit 4 th or 5th gear! Any ideas I have adjusted clutch will adjust primary chain in the morning. Has Banke shifter. Thanks couldn’t have made it this far without the help of all the good people on this site. Thanks David

If you are lucky, the shift lever is out of alignment. Check that when the primary chain is out. See manual for sized of drill to use for alignment. Could replace the shift cam and its clip. Harley Davidson sells the upgraded part for about $5.00

The pawl adjustment is relatively easy, but you'll spend 95% of your time disassembling and reassembling your primary just to get to it, and making the tools you need to get the primary apart. If you're not familiar with it, and can't find any good adjustment videos, keep in mind it's the same process for a sportster, and without checking, I'm just about positive there's gotta be a few sportster videos out there detailing the process.

Make sure you check the shifting before you button everything back up, because if it happens to not be a shifter adjustment, at this point you're only 5 bolts away from removing your entire transmission to see what it's actually doing.

Thanks I found someone to have a look at it and I get to watch and learn. Fingers are crossed hoping for adjustment!

Just remember...clutch basket nut is LEFT HAND THREAD.
If you need help or advice I've got my primary apart right now so can provide pix, etc...
You will need a primary lock tool. I made my own.
Even if you have to pull the trans it's a piece of cake once the primary is opened up.

Sorry I took so long, found the problem. After taking apart and pulling the transmission out the middle shifter fork had no play very tight. Talked with previous owner and he replaced shifter drum with a baker. Couldn’t remove shifter drum from middle fork. Had to tap it out, there was a burr from po installing pin in middle fork with I’m guessing a hammer and punch! I have pictures just can’t load them. I learned lots and the best part was $13 dollars in parts a file, some emery cloth all better! My first tuber and I love it. I’m sure I’ll have more questions about the m2 thanks David

Hopefully there wasn't any permanent damage to the shift drum! Someone else on here just ordered one of those, nice $270 upgrade! Between the Baker part and the banke shifter it sounds like you picked up a nice bike.

Fork pins should be a drop-in affair. Hammers are for Vulcan blacksmiths and not allowed around trannies!

Hi all hope everyone is healthy and riding. Was getting bikes running m2 s turn, started warmed it up drive down the road and have same issue no 4th or 5th! It was working fine when I put it away! Middle groove on baker shifter drum at the point was mushroomed with a burr preventing fork from moving. I’m looking for the cause so it can be fixed. The banke shifter, hardness of the shifter drum? I emailed baker and sent them a picture. I’ll try again to post a picture. Any ideas anyone have a good shifter drum? Thanks David

Well finally got the problem fixed I hope. Burr again on shifter drum! Bought a new shifter drum from baker, reverse shift had a mechanic install and it seems ok,will know more when the 5 feet of snow melts. Found a good mechanic to look at blow by issue and he did compression test leak down test all was good there. The catch can was filling up every 60 miles and blowing on my leg. Umbrella valves were changed and were bad good call 89rs thanks. Have pictures of everything just not capable of posting Thanks for the help all might load up and head south just to go for a ride thanks again David
