I can't seem to remember why Buell stators are affected by some gear lubes.

I am interested because Amzoil makes some nice heavy synthetic gear lube that I would try if I knew it was OK.

Whats wrong with formula+? when I first got my m2 I put some fancy fluid (v-twin specific primary, don't remember the brand) in there and 10k later the stator was toast. Formula+ since then (50k miles) with no problems.

Might simply be a coincidence but if it ain't broke don't fix it, in my opinion.

Nothing wrong with formula but I want to know why it is OK and some other stuff is not. (eats stators)

Amzoil has some high viscosity lubes that might offer improved cushioning for the gears if it won't eat the stator.

The reason is, the Sulfur content in some gear oil formulations attacks the copper wire windings of the stator.

I’ve used Amsoil in my S2, 1125R, FJR, Aprila, and SV650 without any issues. I prefer the Amsoil over formula plus. To me the shifting feels smoother on the S2 compared to any of the other oils I’ve tried. Make sure you use the one made for motorcycles, it would wreck you clutch pack.

this is nothing but hype, use what your owners manual says to and CHANGE ON TIME.Sportsters have gear chain case specific lube, and the formula hasn'tchanged since they separated the motor oil from the system in the late 80's before that runnin straight 60wt.These companies exist on mans eternal search for the better mouse trap, don't let your wallet be sucked in..
