Hi guys. I bought one of the non-existent '99 S3Ts recently, and am curious about the power rating of the 1203cc engine in that model that year.
I have seen 86 hp quoted, and 101 hp from another source.
It came to me with some Buell Race goodies on it, but it feels a little anemic

Anyone know?

I have a 2001 parts manual, and a 2001 service manual, but no 1999 versions yet.

(Incidentally, this bike was a fraction of the cost of that abortion on EBay for $15K, and in my opinion, is a nicer bike)

101hp at the crank, probably low 80s at the rear wheel.

Against your 1125 it is anemic.
The motor was rated at 101HP at the drive shaft.
Bump the HP & torque by replacing the muffler with a 2.5" Supertrapp for automotive use. Then build your own heavy strap for the back. These motors are too old to get a good price on a Vance & Hines designed for the Buell. THe SuperTrapp should last the life of your motor. My Buell race exhaust lasted about 4 years before the aluminum cracked open in several places.

Thanks, guys.

I don't need it to be a race bike, was just surprised it didn't perform a little better than it does. It may need a little tuning.
I haven't put a tag on it yet. We have an umbrella liability policy that limits the number of vehicles we can have registered at one time. I've only ridden it around the private road in our community.

I still ride a mildly modified shovelhead now and then, so I don't compare everything to the 1125s or my monster Dyna.

Max HP at rear wheel is about 92

That's the way mine is set up. I'll get it dynoed one of these days and see what it does.

I'm happy with my 99 S3, which has the remote seat release usually only on S3T models, but it took a bit of tweaking to get where I wanted it. Have a NHRS 1250 kit, Mikuni 42 flatside, and Sportster ignition with a M2 module. Starts, idles, accelerates, and cruises really well. Wants to run at 85 - 90 on the highway.

Mine is set up with a Mikuni 42 (i forget the jetting), Sporster ignition and Buell race module. When asked "how fast is it?". I reply, "it's quick not fast".

It is after all a "sporty motor" at heart and it's one of the funnest bikes I have in my collection.

I won't Dyno it because I already know it's well below a 100 at the rear and I have no plans to make any upgrades.

Got some pics?

Here's one.

Oops, that's the 124" Dyna Super Glide! Back in a minute...

Here it is. The Dyna is pictured above before the exhaust change from the Thunderheader to the D&D Boarzilla, good for an additional 15 horsepower and 15 lb-ft of torque.

Like I said, I don't need it to be a race bike, I have plenty of others if I want to go fast. I was just a little surprised that it doesn't perform better than it does with the tweaked ECM, the race exhaust, and air intake.

Hell, the carbon fiber filter cover ought to be good for 20 hp ; )

On a serious note, does anyone have a set of the thin saddlebag covers they want to sell?

(Not looking to trade, would like to have both.)

Just for giggles, I took the S3 out for a bit tonight, and paid more attention to the rpm range I was running it in.

I was barely breaking 3500 rpm most of the time...

It runs a lot better above 4K.

Edited to add I think it may need a TPS reset too. It doesn't want to take any throttle until the engine warms for a couple of minutes.
