Does anyone have a shifter toe peg laying around, and have a few spare minutes to be able to measure the thread size and pitch for me? Specifically I'm referring to the aluminum X1 boomerang shifter peg, but I would assume that's likely the same piece they use on the M2/S3 shifters, as well as the updated X1 flat shifter.

It appears to be 5/16, but nothing is threading into the one that I have, it's too small of a hole to get my thread gauge into, and before I just go ahead and ram a tap through it to match the S1/sportster toe peg I have, I figured someone might have one they could measure to let me know for sure.

Check metric M8 x 1 or 1.25.

Cheers,

Rick

Metric! They love sneaking those in random places on these bikes. I thought about checking that but figured this would definitely be an SAE part since it was Buell specific. I'll give that a try when I get home.

5/16-18 just for future reference in case someone is looking for the same thing later. I had tried 5/16 but all the bolts and toe pegs I had were a higher TPI.

I didn't think they were threaded!
I scraped mine down flush on the highway so as a "temporary" repair, I drilled and threaded it 1/4-20.
I then put a stainless cap screw and a thin copper tube.
I put quotes on the temporary because it's been like that for 12 years : )

It didn't even occur to me that the peg was threaded in the first place!!
I used the left over steel stub in the lever to drill and tap and it didn't even come out!

The XB levers are one piece, the X1/M2/S3/Blast all use this screwed in peg, and the S1 lever just has a straight hole drilled through so you need to use a nut to hold it from behind.

I'm pretty sure the piece in the picture is aluminum, which is why you probably wouldn't have noticed a difference. You might be able to put some red locktite on a bolt, and once it dries untwist the bolt to twist the plug out.

As my "temporary" I'm just gonna go get a bolt and stick some rubber hose over it, and tighten it down with a locknut on the back. Then I'll probably just look for cheap options on ebay and see what'll fit. Places want $30+ just for the toe peg, which is a little silly.

That is silly.
My toepeg was $4 at home depot.

I have a couple of new Buell toe pegs and a couple of just the rubber sleeves. I can take (and send) photos if anyone wants them.

After all that, I tried to put the shifter on my bike, doesn't fit... I'm guessing the peg mount on the X1 frame must be further to the outside than on the S1, because as I started to tighten the peg back onto the frame, the new shifter was pressing against the frame and wouldn't move. I can probably make it work if I take a file to the back of the shifter, but I'll have to get better measurements to see exactly how much I'd have to remove.

Screamer, in case I try to make it work, how much would you want for one of the toe pegs shipped to Pittsburgh PA 15146?

The paint/powder coating at the pivot point got all chewed up on my X1 which caused that same effect.
I had to not tighten my peg all the way to make it shift right.
I scraped and filed at the peg mount area til it was smooth to fix that.
I can crank down on my pegs as hard as I want and it still pivots without binding.

that's not the part that's binding, it's the bigger part above that, the hole the isolator goes through, the round part that's like 2" in diameter. The steel shifter has a lip on the back that's probably 1/8-3/16" long, the aluminum shifter is pretty much flat on the back. It's odd they'd change such a random little detail between the S1 and X1 frames, but I guess they had a reason for it.

I made my own shifter arm, out of flat aluminum and tapped it for the toe peg, with a 5/16-18 thread. I believe it was 1/4-20 stock. A buddy was helping me work on it 1 day, and he overtightened the giant chrome piece. I have a 99, so it had the long funky shifter, and I was itching to upgrade anyway. I bought the newer piece that goes over the spined shifter shaft, from the later X1's. Didn't have a shifter arm, so I made my own.
