That's really great to hear.
Beats replacing the fame doesn't it?

I know you're not supposed to mess with those tie bars as they're set at the factory, but after all this time of the factory being closed and parts supplies being primarily on ebay and classified, it'd be nice if we knew the actual procedure of how those tie bars were set and adjusted. Luckily it sounds simple enough in your situation.

Skip the header wrap! That stuff is known to crack the headers because it traps the heat in. When you tear your bike back down tear it all off, and just hit your headers with some wd40 and a scotchbrite pad to make them shine a little again, or you can really get into it with some polishing compound if you want them to really shine.

Glad the bike is feeling good. All mine needs is an oil change, and the morning temperature to get a little higher than it's current 35 degrees so I can pull mine back out. It's supposed to be 70 this weekend, so I should be able to change the oil at least.

I have some info on the tie bar set ups. Not sure if its on computer have to do some digging. It involves alot of measuring and lining up the plane of the front tire with the plane of the rear tire. Ultimately they are there to keep the front and rear aligned and tracking correctly. You could see how if not adjusted accordingly they could tilt the back tire to a different angle then the front.

Yeah that definitely makes sense. I didn't think about the alignment of the engine affecting the angle of the rear tire.

Just for reference, I don't need the procedure, so don't do any digging for my sake, I was just saying in general it'd be good information for the forum to have, as I'm sure 20 years later people are coming across some reasons they need to set those up.

YES, those tie bars essentially put the 2 wheels in a straight line. It would be nice IF they gave US A procedure in the manuals. And yea I probably got lucky, but I basically, pulled up as many pics of rear tie bars, and Buells showing that bar, that I was able to determine where it should have been. Besides it was so tight, once it got closer to square it got a lot easier to turn. It has to be right, or it would not track straight. 20 years of riding it, I know how it felt when I let the bars go, and it is alright as an arrow like always. I started last night. Fired it up one last time to be sure it was the base gaskets. I got the exhaust, intake, and rear rocker box off. Gotta go be uncle Mike this morning. Hey, It's an important job too. Then get back and spend the rest of the day/night on it. Hopefully I can get it done and be riding, it felt GREAT, but I know I gotta order the Buell tooth device still. Stay safe out there people.
