since you mention the X1 that sold for an absurdly overpriced $8800, you might also want to mention the other two buells that sold for an equally absurd value at the same auction:

2012 1125 CR with 79 miles - $9900
2002 Blast with undisclosed miles- $3575

I don't think that's absurd at all. The 1125 CR is a great looking bike and how many of those are out there with just 79 miles on them?

As for the Blast, yeah that one seems kinda strange...

i am going to respectfully disagree. $9900 for a CR is absurd. I see them all the time for around $4-5K, some with low miles.

Still. There's a significant difference between low miles and as good as no miles. Having said that, no miles would have been better than 79.

That X1, is that the stock license plate holder or is it a tail tidy? I've assumed that the secondary plastic fender and plate mount was the original configuration - did that change over the production years?

The X1 at Mecum is definitely a tail tidier, there are multiple brands, Storz, Banke, and at least a couple others. I have the Banke on mine. It's just a small sheet metal square with one side bent a little. I think it makes more visual improvement on the X1 than the M2, because of the difference of the X1 metal seat stays, vs the plastic rear cowl of the M2. That yellow X1 is a pretty nice looking as well, even stock.

Mecum is a good indication of where the market is heading, 3 years ago Bonnevilles and Vincents were hot, now not so much, all the old guys who wanted one bought one already, so the market goes soft. I predict a 50% rise in Buell tuber prices in the next few years. I've had quite a few collectors say to me I'd like to get a tuber Buell.

Sorta been expecting this to happen. Buell is a niche American classic and tubers are totally old-school cool.

Back in the day the old Triumphs, BSAs and Nortons were just a ball to ride - great handling for the time and torque from idle.

Time went on and they became classics and now we have sportbikes and everything else. But - light weight, great handling and torque from idle make for a fun-to-ride motorcycle -- and these old pushrod American Vs deliver that in spades -- plus they look cool and are relatively simple machines. Destined to become classics as surely as the old Brit bikes. JMHO.

My X1 has been the best money I ever spent. I can't wait to ride it again, I'm going bonkers...
