Hi guys. Need some assistance here. I have the s1w parked and apart for the winter and decided to do do some much needed maintenance. The subject being one. The original was cracked in half but still held together by the shoe. How bout that for being too close for comfort? Im having an issue installing the new one. I keep reading the manual and it says to torque the locknut to 10-12’ lbs, install shoe and thread into bottom boss on primary but, i cant get it to spin to thread in once its torqued. The open side of the shoe looks like it accepts an open end wrench but mine are too thick and im pretty sure the open side of that shoe goes towards the outside of the cover. What am i missing here? A thinner wrench and torque to spec after its threaded in the cover? But how do i adjust it to height once its torqued and i cant get it to spin to raise or lower shoe? |

The closed end of the plastic shoe goes towards the primary cover, but that doesnt really help either way. I think my updated tensioner came with the plate and nut already installed, so I cant say as far as the torque goes, but it needs to be loose enough to be able to spin. You adjust the tensioner with a hex key to the bottom of the threaded portion of the tensioner after the primary cover is bolted to the engine case. If the nut on top is tightened to the point that the threaded rod wont spin, you're never going to be able to adjust the tension. |

I would suggest backing off on the locknut and threading it in by hand. The locknut can be tightened by feel while you hold the bolt end with an allen wrench. I think it's 1/4" The torque of the locknut is not critical. Just don't go mental on it like it owes you money. |

That was my issue. I loosened it just enough so the shaft spins. I was concerned about the torque of the locknut and it not being able to spin and not being able to adjust height. It moves around a little now that its in there but i imagine the bottom nut locks it in place. Thanks for the help guys |

You are lucky Mike. Mine detonated at just over 6k miles and tore up the insides of the case. I was scraping pegs at 60mph when it happened. Had to throw out those underwear and pants... |

that would be a scary feeling for sure. I pulled the shoe off and it just fell apart. I'm glad I caught it in time. my bike has 11k on it the part# is 14-7805-0022 from NRHS. its not listed on the site but give Dan a shout and he'll take care of ya. it's only like $26 |
