Depends on the bike, I'd say. It steers a lot more neutrally with a 190/50. Most 180's end up with a really flat profile, and the bike will tend to fall over leaning in, but the center lasts a bit longer. The chassis is set up a lot different than stock. | ||

The chicken strip is that strip at the edge of your tire that has a slight gloss to it because it's never touched the road. The less you lean your bike, the wider the strip, making you more of a "chicken". Very important to your self worth when you're 20 and have a gsxr haha.  | ||

No_sprk: Do you squeeze the tank with your knees? That's an important part of surviving on a sportbike with low clipon bars. You have to squeeze the tank with your knees and support your upper body with your core muscles, instead of letting that weight go on your arms, which translates into wrist pain and numb hands. These bikes aren't as drastic since you're sitting up a lot more, but that also makes it easy to forget. Make a point to actively squeeze the bike with your legs and try to hold yourself up without your arms, and see if they feel any better after a few rides. | ||

i do hover on the pegs and i do use my knees and lean. it got to the point when it was not bad to holy crap this sucks. it was a mix of a few things. alot of long downhill twisties, me constantly pushing forward, the HORRIBLE pavement after i got off HWY1 , lack of straight roads and me not wanting to stop lol. maybe this will help...  | ||

Yeah, thats a long trek on an S1. I've done about 200 miles in a day on mine, but it was in 60-70 mile stints. I wouldn't want to try it in one shot. My commute is just under 60 miles each way and that is about my limit for one sitting. | ||

I was following some sport touring guys with all brand new gear for awhile and didn't feel like stopping. These guys were green. Riding in the middle. Not covering the whole lane. Braking in corners. I stayed back but was enjoying the ride. | ||

It's funny how a person can feel comfortable leaning in one direction more than the other. I know I've had tires that did the same thing, I don't remember which direction was my better one. The strips on the tires I've had on the S1 have all been pretty symmetrical though. | ||

I can lean hard right but we normally don't push so hard on the right as we can't see through the corner when riding on windy coastal roads | ||

I will say, of all the bikes I've ever had this tuber is the easiest of them all to get to the edges of the tires. I don't assume my riding skills have magically progressed that much in the past couple years since I've had other bikes. I know when I was younger I had bikes where I'd really push myself, and still always seemed to have a bit more of a strip left. I use my S1 as a commuter, so aside from a couple well known turns on my normal ride, I'm really not pushing this bike that hard. I'd assume some of it also probably has to do with the upright handlebars that let me just sit and steer the bike, which leans it over farther as opposed to clip-ons that have me throwing my weight more side to side, which I don't need to do on this bike. It's not the first bike I've had with these kinds of bars though, so that can't be all there is to it. | ||

I have found that tubers will generally drag the pegs and sidestand when approaching the edge of the tires. I moved from western NY to central FL on my S1 over three days. The first day was fun. The 2nd day was uncomfortable. The last was grueling. A 400 to 500 mile day isn't so bad...so long as it's just for a day. | ||

some updates... bike is on the lift, i dont feel like replacing the stock exhaust since the one i bought online was a POS. i need to jet the carb so im just going to wait till i get the new pipe in the mail. i got new plug wires and plugs in the mail, a local HD parts guy who is also a m2 owner said the screamin eagle coils work well on these bikes. i may look into it. alot of used ones on ebay for cheap. bought a steering damper (good deal) not sure if i really need it but def ads to the cool factor! also found a corbin seat online that needs recover, so im hoping i can get it setup for my large american ass, otherwise im buying an x1! | ||

I just took my x1 on a cpl hr ride. Theyre nice bikes no doubt. Im still debating on selling it or the 96 or even both. Ideally get back to one bike so that one bike gets all the attention  On a side note, i did get some sportbike riding shorts. They help alot but the x1 is def more comfy and the shorts arent really needed. Did you get the drummer? (Message edited by Mike lee on July 01, 2018) | ||

The stock X1 seat is murder. Corbin did a nice job on mine except for I had to relocate the female receptacle for the mounting stud, the idiots.  | ||

Thats nice that they thought of... a package indent? Ya, the stock seat aint great. I have one of those as well as a select and some custom thing. The select is what i use for the long rides. The custom thing, while not as comfy but more than the stock, is an around town seat. The stocker gets hardly no use heheh | ||

Corbin calls it a "ball job". The Select Seat isn't bad but the edges are a bit sharp if I remember correctly. I always wore leather pants when riding on that one. | ||

The thinness in the middle is one thing I love about the S1 that is hard to find in most modern motorcycles. It's one of the things that made going supermoto for a commuter bike easy. Having legs splayed out by a fat seat/tank feels unnatural to me. | ||

Good score. I inquired to corbin about redoing my seat. The PO taped a box to it during shipping and when i removed the tape, it took some of the black off. To replace the old with new foam and redo the actual seat material was 175. I never got around to sending it in. | ||

Awesome deal! the metal seat pan alone makes that a much better upgrade to recover than a stock seat. I picked up a twintail seat in horrible condition off someone for about $35-40 shipped. I'm just going to try redoing it myself someday, of course I'll also need to track down the twintail bodywork for it too though. | ||

called corbin. they also told me $175 to redo it. i saw a pic on google of a recent corbin. stitched logo instead of the big tag. wondering if ill have them put the lightning stitch in or not. also on theyre site they talk about a newer foam. since theyre located in the bay area if i setup a appointment i can do a ride in and have it done in a few hours. also till the 8th they are offering 10% off, probably pay for the fuel to ride down. | ||

Making the appointment and riding down will get you a cooler seat, probably...they will fit it to you, new foam at all. They also can do about anything you desire in customer colors/materials. THe racing stripe seat on Veronica (as seen in my profile pic) was the result of a saturday morning spent @Corbin. Oh, and you could pick up an air cleaner ont he way...
