Anybody fitted Rethal style fat bars to an S1? I'm working offshore right now but from what I can remember the gauge cluster would prevent a fit without risers or some other mod? Anyone done this/have any reviews of how they fit/handle etc..?

Thanks

I saw someone on here do it once, they just drilled the stock risers out to 1-1/8". I think they had to get a little creative since the clamps are at an angle, you have to keep careful to keep the holes aligned.

I've thought about switching someday, but luckily my top triple has the bolted on bar clamps, which means all I'd have to do is unbolt the current risers, bolt on the oversized ones, and then of course I'd have to come up with something for the gauges, but I'm sure with some sheet metal and rivnuts I could come up with something.

Another option, if you didn't want to spend money on a top triple with the bolted on risers, is just to cut/file/sand the current one flat, drill new holes, and bolt oversized clamps on, just brace it on the back so the pressure is spread out. I've drilled flat top triples for risers before and it's nothing overly complex, just have to make sure you get the holes are symmetric.

Not mine, but always thought this one looked good. If anyone has any more pictures/info about this bike I'd love to see them. I've searched but had no luck. It looks like he found some bar riser/adaptors that bolt on to the top triple at the original angle. Different gauge cluster all together though so that doesn't help with the gauge mounting portion of your question.

I designed a block that sits in the cradle and steps up to 1 1/8 fat bars and still uses stock gauge cluster mount I have not set this up for a production run, but if there was enough interest I could.

They have a 1” rise in the block to make room for the step-up, and coupled with the low fat bars it’s a great position.

It is the PERFECT setup!!!

Sorry for small pics, I did this with my phone.....

If you have a 96 S1 you risers are bolt on, simply unbolt and install new risers snd gauge mounts.

It’s a 98 S1W. Jolly that looks sweet! How high do the bars sit once mounted compared to regular position? Im currently running 1” risers and stock bars and like that riding position. I guess I could always mount your setup on top of the 1” risers I currently have if I wanted them to sit higher? If you’re gonna fab some of these up I’m definitely interested. Thx

Just re-read your post Jolly, so with your setup are the bars sitting 1” higher than stock? If that is the case then they’re just what I need as is!

New risers alone doesn’t solve the fatbar AND original gauge mount plate, however I designed one for. 96 as well.

I’ll have to resize a photo later

I could go into production for either or both if there was enough interest.

That looks really nice Jolly!

Does it change the angle of the flyscreen much? I could never figure out why the front ends of X1s looked a little off to me compared to S1s, until I eventually realized it's because the gauge plate was taller and it stands the flyscreen a bit more upright. Wasn't sure if this did something similar.

Here’s a small pic of my 96. The stock 96 had 2 bolt in risers that the single top bolted to, if you look closely you can see I made a single lower bolt in riser.

It looks really good!
I'm wondering if this could be made with the mounting holes in the gauge clamps another way around?
So that it would bolt up onto a 1125cr upper triple?
For using 1125cr forks and triples in tuber frame.

I have to look at my CR but the gauges attach to the triple/bar the same way as the S1 setup does. I think. Haven't had it apart for a while, old age / fuzzy memory...

The CR is backwards to a tuber. The bolt pattern anyway. The gauge mount on a CR is part of the upper handle bar clamp. The only reason I know this is because I have a CR front end on my X1 and we had to design a “dog bone” so I could run the CR highbars and the stock X1 gauges.

I know the forks are similar, is the geometry of the 1125 front end different? Any chance you could just buy and XB12S top clamp to use with the 1125 forks? They could be completely different, just throwing ideas out there.

A XB top will not bolt on a tuber with out machine work. The tuber has a large bolt that mounts the top triple. The XB/1125 has a nut style steering stem.

If that was in response to what I said about finding an xb top clamp, I know they won't fit normally, but I figured if he already did the work to fit an 1125 front end on a tuber, then maybe the XB top clamp would be an easy fit.

I guess I could make anything... Jeff has become an expert in the XB conversion stuff.... if there was a demand Jeff and I might be able to merge our parts in a design collaboration....,

We have strayed from the original question quickly though!!

I think I can get these made for 170.00. They fit into the cradle cast in the top tree, 1” rise, convert to 1 1/8 fat bars, still utilizing stock gauge mount plate sitting behind stock bikini fairing.

Any real interest???

Jolly I'll take a set, sooner the better for me, offshore but back in Florida Jan 28th, can you get them made by then? I'm in 100 percent for 170

I’m 100% dependent on the machinist for timing, if it’s critical by that date, shoot me a PM, and let’s chat directly...

I’d like to see some other interest, I have to order a minimum run to go to production....

Jolly, I’d be interested in a set for my 98 S1W. Actually a question over on the FB group seeking a clip on setup led me to here. I think some options are nice to have. Go ahead and add me to your list. Hope you find enough interest from folks.

There seems to be some more interest for these, I can now look into a production run, I’ll be out of town for a week, I’ll get started when I return.

I’ll get new pricing and timeline, and run the order.

I’ll need everyone to prepay.

Thanks!
