Seems pretty slow in the S2 section so thought Id mention that I had a nice ride at lunch time today. Was fairly nice weather, about 43 or so degrees and no deer. Nice WI November day Anyone else been out for a nice ride before the white stuff hits us?

Nice. I have, but on the S1W (won't be done with the S2 restore til March). Supposed to be in the 60's and sunny here on Friday, so...

Last time I rode the s2 a few weeks ago I’m getting a squeaky squeak from the head gaskets. Cometic Multi later put on with o rings, maybe I goofed putting them on byt they were included in the gasket kit. So I ordered HD fiber ones that do not use o rings. Looks like I’ll be taking it back down. :/

William that sound I've heard before. On my S2 it was the end of trans output sprocket stripping-out.

William, I've always heard good things about Cometic gaskets. When I've heard squeaky squeak from my previous S2 it was the tranny drive sprocket worn and coming loose. Whatever the cause, if you're a northerner, ya got 3 or 4 months to work on it

It’s definitely head gaskets, that’s where the noise is coming from. It was just the front, now the front and rear. Only when cold, on start. The noise goes away when the Parts heat up and expand. Tranny output shaft do that with hot/cold or all the time?

Here’s a video just cranking if over a few times cold. I can feel air coming out of the rear cylinder head.

I’m hesitant on using blue devil lol. I torqued the two plug side front and rear and it helped the front. Can you get a torque wrench on the inner two without removing the rocker box? I’ve ordered the HD fiber gaskets and plan on doing it over thanksgiving sometime.

Did you follow the torque instructions in the FSM or the ones that came with the gasket set? They're not at all the same.

I used the Cometic gaskets that came with my 1250 kit and have had no squeaks or leaks. There's a sleeve that NRHS likes to put on the base gasket, but your issue with the head gasket is the first I've heard of.

I've heard urban legends of field-torque being applied to the inner head bolts with a 12-point wrench, but taking the rocker assembly off is the only way to get a torque wrench on it.

I used the FSM for the S2. I noticed there was a difference between FSM torque specs between the S2 and S3. Only mistake I know I made was that I neglected to oil the studs, never heard of doing that in all my 2 stroke builds over the years. It was on the previous page from the torque instructions in the FSM and I missed it.

I think I’m going to pull it back down, remove the o-rings, put on the HD head gaskets and put James coated base gaskets with the silicone on it also. I’ve currently got pigtails, cometic coated gaskets and still get a small bit of oil weep occasionally out of those, especially if I don’t let it warm up long enough. I also get a small weep the case seam right below the oil filter. May put some three bond on that and see if it helps.
