Hey Everyone, Its been over a year since I fired up the X1, and I am definitely having a few problems at the moment. The last time I rode the bike, the fuel line from the tank (just before the fuel filter) cracked and spewed fuel all over me causing the bike to cut out. I assumed the bike died as a result of lack of fuel from the obvious pressure drop. I was a bit frustrated with the bike at the time being that every time I have ridden it lately there was some sort of major problem leaving me stranded. Fast forward over a year and I finally got around to replacing the fuel hose and filter. The problem now however is that the fuel pump will not prime when the ignition is turned on. I can hear an ever so slight hum for just a second as the ignition is turned, but it is not the very audible pressurizing sound and it is only for a brief moment. Anyone have any idea what could be my problem at this point? I checked the fuses and they are all good. Swapped relays around, and the don't appear to be the problem. Could the ECU have known there was a pressure drop or fuel cut and keep the fuel pump form kicking on? Would pulling the battery and letting the ecu reset potentially help? Thanks in advance. | ||

If you have the ecm-spy and the cable you could test it, and see if there is any other problem | ||

How much fuel was in the tank? I let my S3 sit a spell (SC Summer) with hardly any fuel in it. I got the same symptoms in that I could hear it trying but it was definitely constipated. I found my fuel pump gummed up from ethanol sludge. I ended up replacing with a new (expensive) assembly. I see the same gummy residue in carbs from bikes that have sat a year or more. Perhaps the same root issue? Just the pumps are available on eBay plus lots of used stuff out there. DAve | ||

I'll have to check if it is gummed up or not, I could definitely see that as possible. I would think however I could hear the pump struggling if that was the case. | ||

Pulled the wires connecting to the fuel pump. I get power whe the key is on and ignition switched to on. It would appear as if it is pump related at this point. Hopefully i can simply clean it out and that will be that...Does anyone even sell a new pump for these bikes anymore? | ||

Not to take anything away from Lance or SPHD but highflowfuel.com shows a pump and regulator for $80.00. I think someone here had recently used them also. |
