G'day Ken I wasn't offended mate sorry if I came across that way.
My ratio was chosen because Oz is a big place (long travel time to good twisties) and I find while its fun the 27/61 2.25 gearing is too much on bigger rides just my opinion. In Australia our bikes were way over geared 29/55 1.89 to meet A.D.R Australian design rules. common thing to do was put the US market 61 rear pulley on giving ratio 2.10 which I really liked, still grunty but comfortable on a long ride. So therefore my 26/55 2.11 is bang on the money. I put a slight chamfer on the engine/swing arm mount block as a little belt clearance and the powder coat has not a mark on it. I think from memory Purpony made your rear pulley correct me if I'm wrong. He could have made yours 55 thats all I was getting at. I bought my 26T pulley from Baker and the 135T belts genuine Buell. I made mine so that serviceability was easy in that I could buy genuine parts and not have to rely on someone to custom make service parts for me. I hope you get it sorted soon and can get it out and ride it : )

I need to get mine back on the road only need to make an exhaust mount, battery and re fit oil lines....

Cheers
Jodie

JOE
We are good!!!
I might over the winter still get those gears. Would love to find an oem 55 and weld and redrill it though before spending all the $$$ on having one made.
So you did clearence the pivot block I knew you had to of done something because the 27/61 was close so the 26/55 would have hit easily.
Hopefully this works for me it is a stock belt so its easy to find.

Figure out why my horn keeps going off pretty sure its in the internal bar wiring

I feel like I had that problem once. I want to say in my case the bike had clip ons, and when I'd turn the bars to the left, the horn button would hit the tank and would go off. Doesn't look like that should be an issue with your bars though. I know I've also had cables that weren't routed properly, and when you turn the bars it tugs at one of them and your RPMs jump up.

Sounds like in your case, you just need to start digging into the wiring though. Glad the belt finally worked out!

As far as I can tell the switch went bad but these switches are very simple so not sure how it could make contact on its own. But I wentvtgrough the entire bar setup. Ordered a new one so if it happens after that then I eill look for more issues

So one of the naggy things I needed to do was mount some front turn signals. I had some ideas using some generic fork clamps but with all the custom work why even go there.
So I mentioned it to the guys at work and then drew up a design in about 30 seconds then 10 minutes later he gives me these! Really nice having a 20 ft by 15 ft water jet at work!!!!
Plan is to clean them up round them off mill in some led lights for turns!!!

Make sure you post pictures of the turn signals. My imagination wasn't good enough to picture exactly what you were doing with them based on the pieces you had cut.

Bike looks great though, enjoy it!

So I need some suggestions. And if someone is goid with computer mock ups that would help.
To much raw aluminum so I need to paint some.
Thinking part of the tank blue or black, maybe black on the swingarm? And bars and top triple black

Thoughts?

I think it would look good with black on the swingarm and top triple tree. Maybe even the trim and support around the back of the seat. Making it a little more subtle instead of contrasting. My eyes always go straight to the polished parts....and I'd want that to be the tank, with everything else complimenting it

In my case, I'd never paint that aluminum tank. #1.....it looks awesome. #2.....I know I'd end up scratching the shit out of it

As polished as the rest of the bike is, the tail section looks a bit...erector-set. I think it would look better made from tube. My $.02 (and worth just that).

I am remaking the angle braces as I also see the erector set!

I think some black on the tank would look good(but I know people will tell you not to paint that tank). I'd say to avoid adding any more blue. The frame looks amazing, but I feel like sometimes you see people trying to add too much of one color and it can be a bit much. Top triple would look great black. Forks would look really good black, but I'm not advocating ripping those things apart just to get them anodized. Maybe someday when you already have to rebuild them, it'd be something to consider.

I don't typically like X1s, but I feel like every X1 I've seen with a shorter tube subframe always looks amazing. If you're thinking about reworking yours, I'd definitely look forward to seeing what you came up with.

The license plate bracket could look nice painted black as well.

Well here is what I am thinking since it is now snowing here and riding is done I am going to make the last push and wrap this up. Top triple, bars, shifter, plate mount, frame brace, side faces of swingarm leaving top edge raw will all be black. Center section of the tank or the top still thinking on that will be a clear candy blue color to match the frame but you can see the aluminum through it rest of the tank will be polished. Controls blue to match the frame.

Something like this but this is poor iphone editing!!

Another option to get some color on the tank if you don't want to paint the aluminum, is to get some nice blue Buell decals cut for it. A big blue Pegasus or something would fit it well without having to actually cover the bare aluminum.

I need someone near me that can tig a couple pieces of aluminum in place at my seat pan. Then I can pull it off and have it fully welded. Anyone?
I can bring it to you or if you want you can do it here if your welder is portable
Anyone

Found out some interesting info on my tank.
Evidently it was not made by a boeing guy and is not a one off tank. Yes there are others out there. Not sure how many.
The guy does not make them anymore. He use to make them for the race bikes. And the first fuel injected Buell to win a national road race had this same tank on it. He is one of the guys that made the xb race swingarms. My tank was made March 25 2003.
Still waiting on some history. But very surprising its in the X1 files on the second page!!

"Wish there were more metal S1 tanks floating around"

No joke.....thats the only part of my S1 that I assume will always look like crap. I rarely have an interaction with someone where I don't get a "Wow.....whats wrong with your tank" comment. I'd love a metal one to solve it once and for all.

When I get time I'm gonna try making a fiberglass cover for it. I think Ken was actually the one who posted pictures of a really nice looking one. Mine isn't too bad at the moment, but I'd like to repaint the bike someday, and I'll definitely make a cover before I do.

I know you can get a metal tank from Europe, but I couldn't convince myself to spend more on a tank than I could get a whole extra Buell for. If I WAS paying that much, I'd at least want it to be steel so I could use a magnetic tank bag.

The alloy tuber fuel tanks are lovely!
You can order the big and small model tanks in the UK.
There is a waiting time and they do cost you some $$

Yes O posted pics of the black carbon cover made to cover a Manta tank. Ross (Phelan) owns that cover now.
I would love to fab up a tank. I am not an Aluminum welder though. But I could make up some wood bucks and make it from steel. Just dont know that it would look that great!lol.
But if there is someone skilled with tigging aluminum and could fab them like mine he could sell them for 1200 and pocket alot!!
