The gas cap fix aluminum part is back up for sale on eBay, I got mine last time I saw it. Didn't have any problem but for 40$ i like to have peace of mind.

I bought one last time around, but I'm not sure how to install it.

I just installed mine yesterday. The ding dong who owned the bike before me stripped the bolt. SO I had to clean that up and it was ugly if anyone has an old cap they don't need anymore let me know.

It's easy remove the nut on the bottom and the large black plastic piece and put the new one in its place. Note the orientation of the tab and the plastic piece. Reinstall the nut, give it a few twists I had to file down part of my cap with a file but good as new!!

So when you take your gas cap off and flip it over you will see the black plastic part. The center should have 2 flat side as you can see here they are rounded off. So when you twist the tab it won't turn and secure the gas cap to the tank. Mine would leak if you filled it too far. The aluminum part replaces the plastic one, its a very nice piece.

Resize it to 640x480. It should fit.

I have a worn out old cap. I don't think I threw it away, What part would you be needing?

My original cap wore out so the locking thing was rattling around and locking/unlocking itself with engine vibes.
I tried boogering it up with thick grease but the gas just washed it out.
I stopped messing around with it when the dealer told me how much a brand new one cost.

>Edit:
I just looked up the cost of a new cap: $75 or one without the locking crap is $60
More pricy than when I bought mine but still not crazy.

I need the tab itself the nut and bolt part. My bike is a number bike so I want to pull parts off another cap.

The original gas cap has two flaws.

<> 1 The pivot hole in the plastic piece wallows out.

<> 2 The black plastic ears on the inside get distorted and spreads out.

Both prevent you from getting your gas cap off.

The aluminum one will last much longer. Grease the pivot and install a new O-ring to seal to the tank. Don't over tighten the center nut. It should close tightly without too much force.

Third flaw:
The locking thing isn't sealed with anything and water can get in especially if it is worn out like mine was.

I'll try to find my old cap and see if those parts are worth sending along tonight.

Failed to find it so far....
I know I didn't throw it out. I'll just need to get a shovel.

I found it! It was on the top of a table in plain sight.
Nice hiding spot. I was looking on the floor under everything.

Anyways, what parts are you needing?
Just the nylock nut & washer?

I need the for lack of a better word the "tab" and locking nut at the bottom that holds the plastic part in place. I can send you a mail label

I bet I could just tape it a rectangle of cardboard and stuff it in an envelope.

So you need the central threaded shaft with the tab that says Buell on it along with the washer and nylock nut?

You don't need the spring or larger washer?
My plastic locking bit isn't worth sending as it shows evidence of impending failure.

Nate, I'd be interested in the rest of the cap if it isn't scratched or buggered on the edges. I managed to scratch the top of mine when I was installing the fix.

The aluminum part is worn right out. I got 85,000 miles out of it.

You're better off getting a blast cap.
