So I'm a second time owner of a Buell. I just recently picked up a 2000 X1 and the gas cap is leaking?? Is there a fix for this?

Mine s3 and Blast both weep around the hex bolts along the edge of the cap. I'm not sure how to fix this. The cap itself has a big O-ring on it.

Where is it leaking from?
Is it the vent thing or the cap itself?

From the cap it self. It doesn't feel like it is clamping down right?

I bet the rubber seal is missing. There is a foam rubber seal that is supposed to be on the gas cap near the flange. It sometimes comes off my bike when I take my gas cap off. Check it out man. Don't know where to get one but it's worth checking out.

Tried tightening the nut? Got Gmann's aluminum flange installed? Changed the o-ring for the one made of Vigon?

It's definitely likely that your gas cap just isn't tight enough. After you put the gas cap in and twist the tab it only gets everything into position. Flipping that tab down actually tightens the cap and puts downward pressure on the o-ring. If you don't feel your *snap* into place lightly, you probably need to tighten up the bolt on the bottom of your gas cap. It took me a little while to figure out what was going on with mine after I bought it, because it didn't have the O-ring when I bought it so I wasn't familiar with how it should feel.

Aside from that, half of that cap is plastic and not the most durable, so be gentle with it, and put the aluminum replacement part on your future parts list. There's a $40 replacement part you can get on ebay that's really nice, or there's also a cheaper(I believe $25ish) flange that you need to drill and bolt to the bottom of your plastic flange that keeps it from stripping, I believe that's the Gmann version that Harley Elf referred to.

Can you still get the inner gasket that goes
Under the ring . I did the cheaper fix while
The bike was down for paint and other goodies . When I put it all back together I can Hardley get the cap on . I think the rubber
Shrunk

The tank and cap will shrink incredibly I had to put mine in the sun with gas till they both expanded to reinstall after paint

I recently bought Gmann's product and it's quite nice. It slips right in and you adjust that little nut on the bottom of the gas cap so that when you push the tab on the top of the cap everything snugs up nicely. I locktite'd mine after I set it.

My gas cap O ring was also cracking. I can't find the replacement someone on this list so kindly mailed out to me for free, so I had to carefully roll the o-ring over to the uncracked side and that seems to be working.

The gas fumes will eat the loctite, if your nut slips you may have to stake the tip of the threads with a centerpunch.

mine leaks around the hex bolts too, not the cap, but where the aluminum outer rings seats into the tank itself. mostly I see it seep out under braking, as it seeps out toward the front. this sounds like Williamscott's problem. I can't just tighten the fasterners - is there a fix to this?

Need the gmann fix as well. Plastic is not spinning but is flaring out making cap difficult to remove. No response from pm as of yet.

Any pictures of the gas cap from euronetbike.net? I clicked on the link but there's no picture or description of it.

While the conversation has popped back up, I did finally get around to ordering one of the aluminum replacement parts on ebay(Mechanica-art, not the Gmann part) that replaces the whole plastic part. It's extremely nice. I was really surprised how much nicer it even feels when you flip the cap closed. It has a nice distinct *click* now.

*EDIT* Nevermind on the picture, it appears we're just being spammed.

"Pfeiffenbergermax" is a spambot.

Don't click on the phoney links.
He posted some nonsense clutch cable clamp in the clutch plate replacement thread.
