Was sitting around with not much going on Sunday (ok, ok i was avoiding projects around the house) So Jenn and i jumped in the old beater and went for a cruise to go pick up this 99 X1 that needed a home(even if temporary) and some tlc.

the biggest thing it needs is a new shock(or rebuild if anyone even does that on these?) its like riding a pogo stick! anyone have one laying around, or know who rebuilds them?

Also wish it still had the factory airbox stuff still on it, but such is life.

Agreed, I'm not really into cars, but I was checking out the truck more than I was the bike.

1970 GMC shortbox. it's just a fun daily driver. thing will cruise 90+ all day long and still get around 15 mpg. carbed 350/350th, swapped a mid 70's crossmember under it with everything. which made it 5 lug, as well as made it a disc brake frontend. and 5 lug rear out of same truck under the back. added power brakes, and steering to it. has 3" drop coils, and 2" modular drop spindles up front and an axle flip in the back to give it a 5/7 drop. and sits on 20's/22's

+1 on racetech. They did mine and it's still holding up.

Check to see if the bike is eligible for a shock safety recall first.

^ +1. That looks like the recalled rear shock. You may get a new shock for free.

That truck ROCKS.

Makes me wonder if I should have gone bigger than 17's...

Definitely check recall status first. Not a "permanent" solution, but could definitely get you through the "flip" stage if that's your main goal. If you're planning to keep it for a while, even if you get a recall done...you can always go Works or Penske. I have a Works on my S2 and LOVE it...and either Works or Penske are rebuildable (have a Penske on my S1W - great shock, but as a retired race-team piece it's admittedly more than *I* need for a street bike...but it was cheap and I needed a shock at the time).

..hey No rice ,i might have both the original air box with a K& N air filter, and other side "piece" somewhere buried out in the garage that i took off of my'00 X-1....may take awhile to dig it out(been meaning to dig all of my Buell stuff that i need to sell to help pay for my medical bills), but it might be worth it to ya, if you're interested in them. The only issue the left side piece had was a slight scrap that was there when i bought the bike .When i get all of the stuff dug out and gone through, i'll take pics and post and let you know and pricing and such.Just a thought...besides i really really need to make some room in the "Bekins Moving And Storage " facility....yeah its really that bad....feel really embarrassed to let anyone see the place.......i'll let ya know when i conduct an expedition and retrieval situation....just a thought.LT

damn no go on the recall shock... lol. And, i just called racetech... $230 and i still have to ship it to them! a week each way, and 2 weeks turn around there... Damnit...

guess i'll have to think about it some more.

I've got an insainly expensive Penske on the S1... that bike doesnt get ridden in a manner fitting of that shock, but i guess it looks cool on it. lol

Ratbuell, yes you could easily do a little bigger rim and have it look good ; ) lol

Ltbuell, Dont put to much effort into it, im still debating what to do. big thing is figuring out the shock, then probably doing fork seals. the forcewinder intake on the bike would be fine if i just get a new filter and seal up some of the lines again... so not sure if ill go that route or not.

not looking to break the bank on this!

no..... hasnt even been touched since last year...

Ross has a whole 2009 black xb topend i bought to put on it, with 9 pistons he needs to machine down, and cams that need remarked. then i still have to finish taking everything else off the frame to get it powder coated, and need to repaint the body. plus the worst part is repolishing every piece on the bike before reassembly... i have no motivation for it

If you're using a computer (not a phone), you can get paint.net.

Resize the photo to 1000 pixels wide.

Save.

It opens a window with a "quality" slider, that displays the overall filesize. Scale it until the size is about 99kb, hit save, and post that photo.
