Hey everyone,
I'm thinking of removing the tailpiece on my 97 M2 and running it with just a seat on the subframe rails. I know I've seen pictures of some pretty nice seat units but I'm not sure where to find one. Seems that I've heard of a ducati seat that would fit?
Any ideas would be great.Thanks

You will leave all the electronics exposed.

Use google and search Buell M2 seat mods then look at images

I removed mine for a while when I was trying to patch the cracks. Seat/leg got quite warm.

Thanks S1 owner I hadn't considered that... Could be a problem.
Brother in buells I checked out the link, that's pretty sweet looking.
Robertl I've heard about the excessive heat before not sure I want to go there.
The thing is lately the tailpiece has been looking long, or a little "swoopy" to me so I'm thinking about ways to shorten it up. without swapping out the subframe and plastics

Which tail and seat are on your bike? I know the M2 originally came out with a skinnier tail similar to the S1 twin tail, then it switched to that giant wide tail and bigger seat. If yours has the bigger of the two, I *think* you're able to swap to the skinnier parts without any type of frame modifications and would get a slimmer looking tail.

I feel like while leaving your electronics exposed to rain and things like that without the bodywork on, the biggest amount of water those parts are going to see is from your back tire throwing water all over the back of your bike, and that's coming from underneath so even with the bodywork, everything under your bike is still getting wet. I'm not sure how different that would be if the tail was removed.

I think the tail piece I have is the smaller one, (didn't realize there were two sizes). Actually I have two that are the same size. I was actually thinking more about the length of the tail. I think I like the look of the x1 more because the wheel sticks out more behind the tail. I'll probably just stick with the looks as it is and put money into the electronics instead. I don't generally worry about looks anyway just haven't spent any money on it in a while.
