Hi all,

Finally some time to complete my new dash, i had Autometer air-fuel ratio and oil temp gauges lying around for years so i bit the bullet and made a new dash plate from 10 mm alu. Was mm work, not much space.
Still to do my Spurgin oil cooler installation, want to do this with next oil change and then hook up the temp gauge, wiring is installed.

My bike is a 1998 S1, purchased 2000, it has stage 3 Nallin xb heads and 1250 Millenium cyls.
Baker 6 speed, mikuni carb, flywheel machined, fast cams. Engine was build together by Bike Hospital in Holland, BH did manual additional porting job, the cnc job was too rough and not even.
X1 swingarm, billet engine support. I redid complete wiring loom, just made it look nicer with sleeves and watertight connectors.
Except for front legs i did all anodizing myself with Caswell kit.
Due to work and lost interest bike was left in the shed for a couple of years couple of times almost about to get rid of it, last month found the spirit again and am enjoying riding it again. (glad i did not sell it off)

To Do this wintertime:
1. repaint all plastic, my tank started to bubble
2. Install my RAM single side swingarm and repaint the RAM wheel and stock front wheel to match.
3. Install my Technoflex suspension

She needs a good cleaning but the weather was nice so decided to ride instead of clean.

Great bike, I like the black swingarm and fork upper tubes. And the rear brake reservoir! The handlebar doesn't look chrome...is that aluminum or ? Did you modify the front sprocket or buy a new one?

Thanks guys,

Yes i am still looking for other mirrors, is on the list.

Handlebar is an old anodized alu Renthal bought 2004. Bit wider so you sit more arms spread but very comfortable.
Front sprocket is 3rd party, cannot remember where i ordered.
Rear brake res is a cheapo alu that i anodized, nice and small.
I also cut the cam cover, my first job on my then basic mill. I got some better equipment now to play with.
I tried the Buell rearset, that is why i kept part of the passenger peg structure, but this was very uncomfortable shifting and sitting position (my leg kept cramping up), so i changed back to original tractor style shifter and made it tight with homemade bronze bushes. I did not cut the rounded passenger structure because it is nice to rest the bootheel against with the toes on the footpeg.
I still like the s1 style shifter and brake over later model and 3rd party. It suits the bike.
When i started collecting parts and upgrades i used the x1 files as my bible, so much great info on there.
I collected a lot of parts over the years, and still have a brand new exhaust header 2.5 inch and a Borla with the separate dual header pipes, i like to get the new header black ceramic coated but this can wait. Maybe try the Borla exhaust first if that one suits better.
I also have a brand new Buell logo seat, this was the fancy seat they sold as upgrade.
My engine block is fitted with 12 point chromed bolts were possible. I thought it looked nicer. I also used a lot of cadmium plated Caterpillar bolts and nuts, i had plenty at work and it is not easy to get good bolts imperial in Holland without paying arm and a leg.

Old bike, many tales.

Regards, Danny

Danny, what is the pulley brace you are using, it looks like a push shock conversion brace with the lower front bolt?

Nice dash.

Tombo, you are right. Technoflex push suspension, i install coming winter, need to re-charge the res and shorten the hose.

edit, i remember now also that there are some clearance issues with shock and oil pump, the bike in the bicture was hanging in chainblocks and i need to check if weight is on wheels the spring clears the oil pump. Otherwise i make a new sprocket brace with a little bit lower connection for the shock. For this reason i also did not use my nice red-blue alu oil fittings with braided ss hoses, there was no space at the time and went back to normal fitting and hoses.
It will not be straight forward.

I think the shock would go on in the other direction also with the res and hose in the front correct?

Very nice bike!!!

S1owner,

No i don't think this will work, the wide part won't fit between the front shock bracket.

The stamping on the pulley looks like "P/N 292..." which is the first few digits of the Baker Long Life 26 tooth steel pulley "P/N 292-56F".
I hadn't noticed the XB valve covers, and Zippers ignition module.
Lot of details, very impressive build, especially being in Europe. Well, now there is Twin MC, but they haven't been around all that long.

Jayvee,

Thanks, yes i remember now the pulley is a Baker, i also got their 6 speed. I purchased the 6 speed and RAM single side swingarm from Aussie Pete (famous Bueller from the past), when he was funding his Paris Dakar adventure.
Yes i got the xb heads also, i ordered a complete stage 3 kit XB heads for my engine.
For old school Buell and Harley there is only one specialist in Holland for me and that is Bike Hospital. I would not have dared to do the engine myself as so many challenges came up with alignment of cam bushes and line boring to make all run smooth. It was a fun project though.
The first time i rode her i thought i had lost my exhaust, the aggression and sound compared to the stock engine is awesome.
If i take care of her and don't race and redline she will last a long time. (nowadays i ride like a grandma anyway, too many idiots on the road in Holland)

Regards, Danny

Danny, thank you for sharing. Very very nice work on your S1. Nice to see. How have you liked the Baker 6 speed?

Hi Gobadgers,

The 6 speed might be a bit overrated compared to costs. I would not buy one new, got mine second hand for a good price.
Shifting is smooth and i do like to cruise little above 3100 rpm at 120-130 km/hr. My engine seems very ok with that, i used to cruise with 3700-3800 rpm. Before i got opportunity for the 6 speed i purchased a smaller rear sprocket to bring rpm down at cruising but never got to install that.
I have enough power now to pull off a true overdrive. I still have stock gearing on bike now. I have the smaller rear sprocket and correct belt length on the shelve as future replacement. This should bring rpm back even more.
First gear is short but that is ok for me.
I do have issues finding neutral, usually takes a few tries, that irritates me but i am trying different clutch and primary chain tension to help this and it has already improved. It overshoots so easy if you shift from 1st to neutral and end up in 2nd. And of course i have the clunk when shifting to 1st.
Not sure if you guys have same issues or solution.

Regards, Danny
