Hello everybody,

First off, I am new to Bad Weather Bikers. I have looked up a lot of good information on here. However, I cannot really find a list of what newer XB Buell parts that will fit the tubers. I have a complete XB Firebolt, but it cannot be registered. So I want utilize everything I can from it on my M2.

I know the main stuff like heads, jugs, pistons, front end/forks, rims, and stuff like that. Just curious what other motor stuff that would benefit the M2.

Any and all help is appreciated, thank you in advance.

Fork/wheel/brake swaps are doable.

What about any of the engine/trans stuff?

Cases are different. Pretty sure the transmissions are different, tuber being a trap door type and the XB not. I don't know whether the transmission component parts themselves are interchangeable. FYI, while XB heads will bolt on to a tuber engine, you need to replace the entire top end to do such a swap. Heads, pistons, and cylinders. Also, the front motor mount must be replaced with an aftermarket piece that was made specifically for such a swap.

The direct swap compatible parts list is actually pretty small, and would likely consist primarily of fasteners.

I already plan on getting a 1250 kit (Xb jugs w/ the larger fins) and the pistons set up for XB heads from Hammer Performance and a set of their cams.

I thought I read somewhere you can use the primary/clutch cases, the oil cooler and oil pump, etc.

The primary cover is different. You can use the XB oil cooler, but since the tuber engines aren't oil cooled, and didn't come with an oil cooler, it isn't really a direct replacement any more than any aftermarket oil cooler would be. You're going to have to reroute lines, or put a spin on adapter under the oil filter.

The oil pump might be the same. I don't have any direct knowledge about that, sorry.

Front end can be used but you will need to press the stem out and press in the m2 stem or modify the existing stem. Rear wheel can be used with correct spacers.
Anything can be made to work accept main motor parts just depends how much work you want to do
M2 frame, xb front end, xb rear end, xb rockers with a 1250 kit

S1owner, what is all involved to get the rear swing-arm attached? If it is more then I can handle, i'd rather just do spacers for the XB rear rim to fit my M2's swing-arm. I really want to do this along with the front end. BTW, I like the setup you have got going as well, this is along the lines of what I want to do. Except different tail, I like the bobbed look tho.

If you do decide to do the swingarm swap, and relocate the rear shock, be aware that the rear isolators will now act as a load path for the rear suspension. This is not how Buell designed the frame/isolators to work. HD uses the same isolators as part of the load path with no ill effect, but they also don't hang the front of the motor from a rubber mount. To counter to effect of the frame being pushed forward when the rear suspension compresses, I recommend that you install a Stenzel bar on the front isolator. This will keep the front motor mount from flexing the mounting bolts as the rear suspension moves up and down. Those bolts have a tendency to break, sometimes taking a piece of the head with them. Adding stress to them by relocating the rear shock without adding a Stenzel bar is asking for trouble.

The primary front sprocket and chain can be utilized, dropping rpms @speed ~10%. The XB wheel swap will raise RPMs ~6%, so the primary chain swap is a good option for keeping the gearing closer to neutral (~4% up). The voltage regulator can stator can be utilized as well but requires some wiring. That will convert your charging system from a 22amp single phase to a 32amp triple phase setup. The oil pump will bolt over, which I would do, but you will have to reroute lines. The rear wheel axle spacers to fit the XB wheel on the tuber axle can be found on eBay for about $43. You will have to shave your rear caliper bracket as well to fit the rear.

You guys have been great! Between here and Hammer Performance, I don't think I will have too much trouble with this build.

My last build was just an 883 sportster with Buell goodies and a 1250 kit from Hammer performance.

I hope this build goes good. Still waiting to start the project, just as soon as everything gets moved to the new shop.

Phelan, the XB stator is bad right now. If I get my hands on another I just might swap that around, considering I will be tearing down both bikes completely. Mainly so most of what is gonna be used can go to powder coating.

And I am not afraid of electrical anymore lol. Just a few phases ago in school I took fundamentals of electricity, residential & commercial electric/wiring and solar/photovoltaics, so I should be good now...I hope haha.

Buy a frame with a clean title, they're on ebay occasionally, along with some guys here that part them out. Swapping it out is a one or two day affair if you get after it. Frames with title usually go for $400-600.

I've tried but all I find is $600-$1000 on ebay, that has a clean title. I have looked for over 6 months now. So I am tired of looking and will just part it out now, make my money back and trick out my M2.

Is that the stock firebolt seat foam in that picture above, or did you figure out some way to fabricate that yourself?

Yup, thanks for the info. I made seat foam for a cafe conversion of an old KZ-400. Turned out better than I expected, but a bit on the firm side, so I was looking at what others have done.

When swapping the rear wheel from the XB to the M2, what belt should I be using? The XB's or keep the M2? Also any idea how much needs to be milled of the caliper bracket for the rim to fit?

I'd guess you would want the XB belt, as the rear sprocket will be the hard one to "change". I'm assuming the front sprocket, being attached to the motor, can be swapped with an M2 sprocket.

But then you have possible length problems. I would guess the XB wheelbase is quite a bit shorter than the M2 wheelbase, but maybe that isn't in the swingarm. And you do have axle adjusters on the M2.

Yes there is axle adjusters, however the caliper bracket needs to be shaved down to fit the XB rim into the M2 swing arm. I know a few ppl have done it on BadWeather already, just would like a lil insight before I go and do it. Like how much needs to be milled to fit? What belt to use, or do I need to do a chain conversion? Any help is appreciated.

Got rear XB rim installed, now for the front end. I tried using the M2 stem but was not enough to thread onto for my ease of mind. Gonna modify the XB stem soon, have it threaded further down and trim some off.

Marc (Purpony) counterbored his XB tree so the stock tuber bolt and stem would fit. Another option for ya.
