I'm replacing the rear pads on my 02 cyclone m2. The whole assembly slipped out of my hand during disassembly and a few parts came out and I have no idea where one goes. I will provide pics when I go inside to download but to sum it up; there is one piece of thin metal, maybe a 16th of an inch. 7/8 by 1/2 inch that form kind of a "U" pattern. It looks like the top of the pads should slide in between it as a spacer but I don't see how it cooperates with the other thin metal unit which pushes down on the pads. (Confused? Me too) Any advice will be helpful. Thanks

that fits into the the aluminum bracket that the caliper bolts onto.

I appreciate the help. im just going to get the Clymer manual. BTW, This piece doesn't appear to be too critical. right?

If it is not there the pads will dig into the aluminum. Very critical.....

where the caliper bolts to the bracket, not there. the flat spot where it fits is at the free end of the pads.

btw, i have been working on my m2s for several years, and have yet to find parts on it that are not there for a specific reason. usually best to figure that everything that you run across needs to be back where you found it.

Forget the clymer manual, get the factory service manual at a minimum, and I'd recommend the factory parts manual as well for the exploded diagrams.

There is a 96 S1 manual PDF somewhere online here... you could try and find that, it is close to your M2 and might show that part.

I remember fussing with that clip when I had a tuber, but I don't remember where it went.

in the parts manual, they conveniently left out the pic and location of the clip. however, the fsm does plainly show the location.

if you are going to work on a buell, you really need both manuals. they will be much cheaper than the cost of many mistakes likely to be made without them

That was a bonehead question of me to ask if it was critical. Duhh. OK fasted, I see what you are talking about. the piece has been severely warped (I guess from the last guy) so I need a new one. Or make one..... Please tell me what the "FSM" is. a certain manual?

I cant leave it alone yet. One last question before i seek those manuals. (Look at the picture.) there is already a metal clip there for the free side of the pads to ride on.this is what confuses me.

oops, i thought that what you have in your hand is what is already on your caliper bracket. i remember a pressure clip/springy retainer for the pads that the pin secures, but your mystery part stumps me. sorry...........some one else, please.....

I haven't addressed the part yet. Between the house, work and other toys, she's been sitting up a while and is "on the list". I will keep y'all posted.
