I've been thinking about cutting down the tail section on my '99 M2, what I call the 'curtain' look. This is my efforts playing in MS paint ( I don't have photoshop ) I know the battery area is not be accurate, but you get the idea. I plan on keeping the stock seat. Would like to hear other opinions.

I like it - do it. But keep your original tail. They are getting harder and harder to find. I have a slightly "trimmed" one (see my profile pic). I don't need it any more, you could chop it any way you want and still have your stocker in case you ever want to swap back.

I have never seen an alteration on these tails that looked good in my opinion. Don't forget all the electrical that is under there that you will be able to see.

While I agree with BlackM2, I would add I never really liked the tailpiece on the M2. But as he said, its used to cover a lot of things that are hard to beautify, the ignition module, wires etc.
The Manta tailpieces at AirTech look pretty good, but same problem.

This is why I say keep your stock piece. I ran 2 different cut down tails for awhile, but eventually went back to the stock one.

I just got this tail piece. I havent installed it yet but there is no wiring adjustments other than blinkers. The tail light fits right inside.
