I hae a 1999 Buell Lightning which I have removed the tail section from and replaced with a tractor style seat. This necessitated unhooking and re-hooking up the stock wiring harness with major relocation of components. Apparently I missed a hook up. I'm guessing a ground point. . .

Here's what's working: Starter (bike turns over great), lights, blinkers, and fuel pump makes noise on turning on ignition.

What's not working: No spark from spark plugs. In chasing this back the 3 wire plug going into the coil appears to have no grounding. (I get no tone sound from the frame to any one of the wires.

What I'm guessing happened: I did the main ground between the frame and the battery. Also, I didn't screw with the ground between the starter and frame. I'm guessing though that there were other ground points which in my ignorance of electical stuff I did not reground. . . (A lot of the electrical stuff is now held in place with zip ties vs. being bolted to the frame.)

I'm an idiot when it comes to electrical stuff, but think I need the points / components should have been grounded. Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance! Stumped. . .

Ummm, as a wild guess, when you majorly relocated components, did you orient the Bank Angle Sensor correctly?

Do you have ECMSpy? It will let you disable the BAS and leanstand switches. Either of those will kill the spark. You have no points.

A shout out to AKBuell! It was my BAS. happened to mount it 180 degrees wrong when I zipped tied it to the frame.... Thanks guys for the info. Will post a pic later so you can see what I'm doing on the bike.

I'm looking in to. Getting the EMCspy but want to get the bike started first as it was running fine when I started this project.

Glad you found the problem. And now you know the BAS works . . .

ECMspy is good, factory service manual is better, both is best

FirstBuell, my BAS was located under the seat on my bike. Little square black box (roughly an inch square) with a plug coming into it. It rattles when you shake it.

Here is a picture of the BAS if this helps. Also including a picture of the bike project. . . .

The M2's 2001-2002 have a BAS-Bank Angle Sensor but the 99-2000 do not.

You also can disable the BA Sensor on a 2001-2002. Short or jumper A & B connections on the harness. If you short A & C you will blow the ignition fuse every time. Needless to say use a manual.
