I had some trans problem and purchased a baker shift drum and detent plate that had 1500 miles hoping it would solve my problem. I ended up purchasing another trans that I will put in as is when I get.
How much of a difference would the Baker Drum make ?

I purchased the baker drum for $150 and might let it go to the highest bidder if interested.

Not sure. I have never used one nor rode a bike with one in it. However, I just did a bit of trans work to my X1 and one area I paid attention to was the shift drum. It had burrs from when the slots were originally machined for the shift forks, I removed all of these and buffed it out nicely.

I also got rid of the stupid clip that holds the detent plate on. I have had one break in the past. I recommend modifying the drum to eliminate this clip. I had the end of mine machined off to the base of the clip groove then drilled and tapped for a 10-32 screw.

Overall my bike shifts smoother, but I also changed all the shift forks and one gear while I was in there so that might have something to do with it as well.

I might be interested in that Baker Drum if you decide to go a different direction.
