Hey all, I am working on rebuilding my bike but am having a few issues with my starter. Just wanted to make sure my wiring methodology is correct. Right now I have the battery positive feed going to the side terminal of the starter motor, and a second feed going to the breaker from that same terminal. I also have the connector depicted plugged into the bottom terminal of the starter motor. Right now the starter does not want to kick in, and the neutral light isn't illuminated. If I ground the terminal which bridges the solenoid and starter motor the neutral light turns on and I get slight movement from the solenoid. I am sure it is something simple that I am missing, but what am i doing wrong? Also, I am trying to pair each connector with the appropriate plug on the wire harness. Everything is accounting for, except for the bullet connector shown. Anyone want to play "guess that wire"? Not quite sure where that connectors home is (could possible be related to my starter / neutral indicator issue). It branches out from the main harness near the cam position sensor connector.

Hi not much help, I can give from this distance. Have you checked the kickstand switch wiring? & the clutch lever switch wiring? |

I wound up figuring it out. The grounding strap from the engine to the frame has a poor connection. Still can't figure out what that last bullet connector goes to. Every other connector has a home. Anyone with a Cyclone able to confirm where it is supposed to connect? It branches out near the speed sensor connector on the wire harness. I'm stumped. |

Does it go to the oil pressure sensor? |

Got a '98, I can't find that connector. Thought that might help because it may be related to something the 98 didn't have? Point of origin a bit hard for me to establish without pic so might just not exist on earlier model? Ground strap makes me chuckle - I spent a couple of days checking and testing every connection on the bike once, and it was that little mongrel! |

Thanks for checking Wesbuell. I don't think it would be the oil pressure sensor, as it is located near the starter/battery area. It is one of the two bullet connectors on the harness (the other connects to the voltage regulator). |

Found an image in the manual showing the wire. Hard to tell where it connects from this picture. Its the wire wrapped in the black plastic ribbing. |

That should be the main feed wire that goes to the contact breaker & then on to power the rest of the bike. However you said you'd already got a wire going to the contact breaker so which one is that? I went & checked on my 99 M2 & I have the main power lead coming down from the battery to the terminal & then the wire in the ribbed sheathing goes off around the other side of the battery. Best to get it right, you don't want it going up in smoke. |

I don't have a clue about electrics as a general rule, (disclaimer). On mine that wire in the ribbed sheath goes onto the side terminal with the battery feed. I don't seem to have another wire to the breaker, hope that helps. |
