I have an email into Al at American Sport Bike but until I hear back, has anyone here tried: Race Tech Springs Race Tech Gold Valve Emulator Hyperpro Springs? I weigh around 160 lbs. and just need to make the forks more compliant as the forks just aren't budging when they encounter small bumps. Pennsyltucky is full of small bumps! |

I've used Race Tech gold valves on a couple of bikes, but they were Harleys with Showa standard damping-rod style female slider forks. Excellent results were obtained, but if I'm not mistaken, your X1 fork IS a cartridge-type fork, male slider design, so the gold valve emulator would be a down-grade of what you already have. The full name is "Race Tech Gold Valve Cartridge Fork Emulators". They make a damping rod fork work like a cartridge fork. Emulate means "to equal or approach equality with". See this link: http://www.racetech.com/page/title/Emulators-How%2 0They%20Work I'm thinkin' you may just need lighter fork oil and maybe some dialing in of the settings. A set of springs set up for your weight and riding style could help also, but that will incur more expense. |

It's been so many years since I've stripped a set of these forks down I'm not sure if we're talking cartridge like the Guzzis used to have or if you can get in there and swap the guts out of it. Does anybody know? |

You can easily take the spring out through the top they're not overly complicated. I replaced the seals in mine with no prior knowledge on how to do them, it's all fairly straightforward as far as disassembly goes. |
