So, putting the M2L back together (all stock mechanicals, 2001) I've been chasing a MASSIVE primary leak. Level is fine, but it was pissing fluid out the stator grommet and the clutch cable adjuster. (see the "It Lives!" thread in the M2 section for details).

I finally hooked an air hose up to the disconnected breather hose, and blew from the primary end out. POW!! Something came shooting out - no idea what, or where it went...but on a test ride today, no leaks.

The other, weirder "feature" that prompted this post - the whole time I've been riding this thing, sorting out the new X1 front end, and race exhaust jetting, it's only ever given me one green LED on the Kuryakyn voltmeter I have on the master cylinder. All my other Buells light two. It was a steady single, too - never dropping, never climbing. It was *charging*...just not "as much" as it should have been.

Shooting whatever-it-was out the vent hose and allowing the primary to breathe again...fixed it. 20 mile test drive, and by the time I was home it had a steady two greens on the gauge.

Cavitation causing electrical interference in the stator?

Bike only has 4800 miles on it...not like it's "worn out".

nothing mechanical except a regulator failure open wire, bad magnets or a short causes alternator output to be off spec.

I submit that the battery was down and needed a good deep charge....

Sweet...this thread'll be like philosophy, Bahahahahahahaha. Whilst you may be right Oldog, I am lovin' "cavitation causing electrical interference in the stator".

Couple hundred miles with the clogged vent hose and a single green light (rock solid steady single green, not wavering, or "it built up to it eventually but that was it)...20 miles with a clear vent hose and 2 green lights about 5 miles in.

Something changed.

Which vent hose are you talking about and which end did you put air in? Sorry, it's been a long day.

So Rat, you're saying that if the primary doesn't see atmosphere, it builds up a little pressure and may make a gasket weep?

The hose is the one that comes out above the starter and goes up under the tail to vent. I blew air into the end that attaches to the case, after I slipped it off the fitting.

Yes, with no venting the primary builds pressure. On my bike it found the easiest way out to be the stator grommet and the clutch cable adjuster. Although it looks like I either didn't clean it thoroughly or it did bugger the mainshaft seal because it has another puddle under it now.

Mainshaft seal is easy to replace...again.

Thanks for the advice, I'm going to try that on the S2T. I don't have mainseal issues, but am losing a little near the bottom bolts for the Banke ass'y. I have it apart right now for the new primary chain adjuster shoe. Drained out approx 28 oz.
