Short version is to just look at the back of the switch for signs of overheating. What usually happens.

W/a multimeter, unplug the switch from the harness. The red wire (harness side) is IN.
With the switch in the first position, you should have continuity to one or the other Out wires. With the switch in the Run position, you should have continuity to both wires.

PM me for a how to fab a jumper harness to eliminate the ign switch for troubleshooting.

Hope this helps, Dave

Work with me here, it will sound bizarre ..

Check and see if the ign fuse is blown. If so, try a new fuse and listen/watch as you connect the red and red/grey wires. This is batt to accessories. If all is good, then connect the red/blk wire and listen/watch for a fuse to pop. IF it is the ign fuse, unplug the speed sensor. The connector is under the battery tray. Unplug the jumper, put in a new fuse, and try again. If everything works, then the speed sensor is shorted internally, causing the loss of elec power.

Dave

I swore up and down my battery had to be good because it was new, and my ignition switch must be bad. After the sticker shock of a new switch at the stealership ($175) reality set back in and i started checking the system. Result - bad batt

Well, excellent, mostly. Glad you found the problem, sorry about the rest. At least this was simple. Re the replacement, the OE battery has served me well, and others here have had success with them. Not necessarily the cheapest but lots of service locations about if you get one.
