Looks very blocky and awkward to me. I would try doing something more sleek.

Are you planning on glassing it over?

I see you have at the very least a lathe (perhaps a mill?) If you have something to bend that kind of steel/aluminum stock, then I will be impressed and on that note I'm coming to stay with you for a while.

I like it so far but in my opinion the sides should tapper in slightly as it moves to the back. what else do you plan to do to it?

im afraid if i taper the top in the seat will get to narrow. I was thinking of leaving it straight and then having the lower legs angle in.

I also wanted to keep some bulk for the upper half. I dont want it to blend into the frame to much and just have a seat floating in space. This will also allow me some space under the seat for the relays and computer. I was planning on painting the upper half to match my tank, and powdercoat the lower to match my frame.
Was planning on having the upper a 2" tall x 1" wide square tube and the angled supports 1" tube.

Oh i see it. I like that. I was saying that just because i feel like parallel lines on bikes can look weird but the front view has swayed me.

what material are you using? I think 1" tube may look too thick (its about the size of the frame if I remember correctly) if you use steel supports you can run smaller tube. like 3/4" but again thats just my opinion

not sure yet, either aluminum or chromoly like the frame. We will see when i get to it.
Im not decided on tubing size yet, just pulling it out of my head at the moment. Ill have to see what looks right.

so you wont be glassing over it or have any type of cowling?

What type of machinery are we talking about?

this design, no cowling or glassing... i was thinking about that though at one point.... im in love with this bike- and kind of the look im going for.

machinery, anything i want really. I have a CNC, lathe, bridgeport and then i have a good family friend that has a garage machine shop with anything you could ever dream off. He has been working out of there for 40 years, and has everything! lol

yes i agree, I really do like that bike, other than the fact that his tail is to steep...

as far as your machinery... i hate you.
Im coming to stay on your couch.

Are you really stuck on such big tube? I think that really detracts from the sleekness.

i also agree the tail is just a little too high on that bike.

no, not stuck on the big tubes.... will have to see as i go along what looks right.

Idk if you use big tube and do the same thing the swing arm does and thin down toward the rear it might look good.

I think it would be cool to use the same diameter tubing as the frame (like the bike you lust after), and powder coat it the same color as the frame. Especially with your grey frame, it will stand out below your seat really well, and have a "factory" look to it.

I like your thinking. : )

I'm 100% with Andy on this one. And I think your bike would look even nicer than the picture without that bump on the tank.

What about the fuse block, ecm, flasher etc... thats mounts under the seat? Is there room? I assume your staying with a stock oil tank?

that should all fit under there still. Yes, sticking with a stock oiltank for now. May build an aluminum one in the future. I started building the tail out of SLA since i can just throw it in the machine and work and let it build with other things. This way i can see how i like it before i waste my time building one....

there was a fellow at one time, that was doing carbon fiber work for buell enthusiasts. He designed a really cool, short tail for the X1. REX

i think this is a pretty sweet tail

http://www.speed-of-color.de/index.php?cat=BIKES&p roduct=BIKESWHITETHUNDER

but i think your leaning toward something like this

http://www.speed-of-color.de/index.php?cat=HECKUMB AUSMX&product=HB-006

however i think your design already looks better than the second one

When you get your design ready for production, please post on here how I can get one! Are you making a few so you can sell them?
