I've tried everything, including yelling at it. How do I remove the fuel cap on my "new to me" '00 M2?

shoot some wd40 in there. It has attached itself to the tank. Pretty common problem on bikes that sit over the winter.

I'll try it as soon as I get home! Thanks.

Assuming you get it off, spray the rubber bits inside the CAP with a lot WD-40 too, and check the big O-ring that goes around the outside edge of the cap. These go bad about now, mine (2000 model) did a year ago. Dealer cost is about $12 or so.

$12 for a big O-ring is a lot. What about a hardware or hose specialty shop?

There's a nylock nut on the bottom of the cap you can adjust too, maybe you'll need to back it off a hair once you get the cap off?

Your local auto parts store should have the o-ring for about 75 cents.

Is the latch hard to move? Mine was like that, hit it with Wd-40 and it works like new.

I'm having a similar issue where the metal corners of the cap that fit through the wide slot get hung up. I need a flat head screwdriver to get the cap off (does require a large amount of force).
I thought that I saw a string on the BW where the person filed off a little bit of each corner on the cap. I don't see any issues with doing this. Anyone?

If you're sure of what is hanging up and the only way to adjust it is with a file, just use care and go a little at a time. Others have done similar, my experience has been the plastic parts deformed a bit over time, then the innards dried up and it got difficult to turn the flip tab.

I'd still suggest adjusting the tension first and seeing if it helps. Don't know why the metal bits on a gas cap would deform enough to need filing, it's not a part that should be under a lot of stress. You know?
