I want to put new plugs in the bike tomorrow and was wondering what people were running. My bike; 2001 X1, Forcewinder intake, Race ECM, White Bros E Series slip-on, Heavy duty sparkplug wires. No other engine modification that I know of. Owners Manual calls for Harley-Davidson No. 10R12 (in a stock bike). |

Look up a search for what NGK recommends. They make some of the best plugs and most local shops carry them. If you ride in hot conditions or like to keep the throttle twisted open then go a plug colder. |

similar mods on my x-1 10R12 seem to do fine. |

Scarecrow: "i" run NKG Spark Plugs PN KR8A1(5477) !!! These are LASER IRIDIUM and are the best IMHO !!! Gap at 0.030" and torque to 11 ft.lbs., use "TORQUE'ing COMPOUND" ANTI-SEIZE Thread Lubricant type 13 which is a HI-TEMP COPPER FORMULA for better heat transfer ... Bought them at Advance Auto Parts in my area ... MAY THE LONG LASTING BUELL BE WITH YOU !!! |

NGK part # is now 6546 (DCPR8EIX) and of coarse no cycle shops or auto parts stores in my area had any in stock so I had to order from amazon.com. And local merchants whine that they lose business to the internet. If they had it in stock I would have bought it from them. What's a guy to do? |

Local shops WILL order it FOR YOU. Shops will only carry items that are frequently used - because when the parts sit in their inventory they loose money. Personally I find iridium's too expensive than what's needed. Iridium's are good for high fouling applications (like 2 strokes) or for vehicles where the plus are very difficult to get to (like Honda VFR's). Considering how easy it is to maintain the tuber Buells, I just get the standard NGK's and save some money. YMMV. |

The Iridium plugs last a lot longer, but are expensive...it's your call...like Sloppy says...if they are easy to change, why not use conventional plugs? I ran conventional NGK plugs in my dragbike at over 11,000 rpm with a heavy load of nitrous, and never had any misfiring problems..Autolite also makes very good plugs if you carefully choose the proper plug for the application. I have an NGK Iridium in my Blast, and expect it will last longer than the motor. I run it really, really hard...ask Buellistic |
