anyone ever had trouble with lifter noise while using hd syn oil? my bike has 22k and once you ride it for 5 min it starts rattling in the top end BAD. i checked oil pressure (good) i changed lifters (good) and i checked all rockers for loose fit. everything seems great except when you ride it it sounds like the top end is coming apart then it quits after awhile. im totally baffled and NEED HELP SOON!

Sounds like your hydraulic lifters aren't working.

BUELLers:

Now if your engine is noise take a long screw drive, put the blade on various places on your valve train and the handle up to your ear and see if you can isolate or locate the noise or noises ...

Ran HD20W-50 oil the first 60K miles and switched to HD SYN20W-50 at 60K miles ...

With the HD 20W-50 DYNO OIL the oil was changed every 2K miles ...

With the HD SYN3 20W-50 it was changed every 3K miles ...

Have 108,062.7.5 miles as of the last ride and have never had any lifter problems ...

IF YOUR ENGINE GETS REALLY "HOT" THE LIFTERS WILL LET YOU KNOW YOU ENGINE IS "HOT" OR LOW ON OIL !!!

"i" would recomm}end that you get with a BUELL or SPORTSTER rider and compare engine noise ...

MAY THE LONG LASTING BUELL BE WITH YOU !!!

Buellistic's words somehow "echo" in my ears for several minutes after reading...
Still can't figure out why...

I noticed more noise from the HD syn, when the price was the same or greater than Mobile 1 20 50 syn for air cooled v twin engines I switched , the noise lessened.

try mobile 1

are you getting oil up top? if so you may be hearing gear noise from the cam chest
also check the condition of the oil pump drive gear.

I know Buellistic personally...he speaks like he types : )...and I might add, he is a wise man when it comes to his Buells.

On the subject of oils...I switched to the Mobil 1 V-twin oil a while back...it eliminated my oil consumption...
