I've been told by a couple people that filling my handlebars with birdshot would be a good way to reduce vibration. Anyone tried this or know of a similar method to reduce vibrations? Mainly I'd like to make my bar end mirrors more useful but long distance comfort would be a good thing as well. |

Finish your S3 if you want all day comfort there squid. On a side note the mirrors on my S3 vibrate all over also. |

Napolean mirrors were thrown into the deal when I picked up S3T bars for that project, so I'm not worried about the fairing mirrors - only how to block the holes off. So Erick, how's the S3 compared to the X1? I'm expecting more comfort and a slightly more "civilized" ride, but what about handling? Does it feel heavier, really different riding position, anything like that? Yours was a T model from the factory right? Or were some of the T options just added to a base model S3? |

Oh, god I love it. The ride is definatly different its handle's about the same obviously the seating is a little different and I think that is why it feels different. With my saddle bags loaded down I think it feels lighter than the X1, don't know why it just does maybe because it cuts the wind a little better. Mine is a T model from the factory. The only thing that I don't like about it is the stock seat it is way to soft but that will be remedied here soon as I am going to have Gowindward do my seat up all pretty like when I have the cash. |

Yes bird shot will take some of the buzz out of the bars. So will heavy bar ends. You don't fill the whole bar. Just the last 2 inches or less. It was done to the Kawasaki H1 500 I grew up riding(point and pray). They shoved rubber corks in, packed it tight and plugged the end. |

Aye. You can fill the bars with a combo of bird shot and silicone caulking, too. I put anti-vibe bar ends on my bike -- which negates the possibility of bar end mirrors -- and saw the smallest improvement. They also make something called a bar snake that is said to work well. Thing is, most of these things even out I4 buzz. I don't think we see much of that sort of vibration on twins... Randy |

My bars were filled with bar snake before i bought the bike, and the vibes arnt bad but the mirrors i have are worthless. I did have the best sucsess with napolean bar ends, just hated the way they looked. |

Phil - I have the CRG mirrors and they are rock steady at any speed.I have the weighted bar ends also, not sure if they help with vibration but I havn't noticed any. But then again I only get to take my bikes on quick trips around town, never spent an extended amount of time on it. |

My S3T stock fairing-mounted mirrors are dead-steady and give a good clear picture. Why not just use the stock ones on your S3T? |

The fairing mirrors I have are physically intact, but the frame and plastics were sitting outside in the weather for the past 2-3 years so the plastic is really brittle and faded, and the mirrors appear to be permanently discolored. I guess I can see how things go when I get further into the project and I may be pleasantly surprised at the usefulness of the stock mirrors. Right now though I'm leaning more towards using the napoleans. Bar end mirrors is the mod that I notice and appreciate most often on the X1. |

Pardon my ignorance but what is birdshot? Sounds more like what you get if you get under a flock of seagulls after they had a good meal... |

LOL...It is a type of hunting ammo designed for BIRDS, I.E. pheasant or grouse. And lots of other game birds. |

OK. Got it. Sort of like shotgun shells... |

Birdshot is the lead pellets in shotgun shells. Birdshot is very small pellets so the shot covers a wide area to hit birds easily, as opposed to buckshot which is fewer and larger pellets to pierce the hide of larger animals. |

Pk, I had one of my mirrors hit a car mirror on the freeway the other day and it popped the glass out, breaking against my hand. Went to a local glass place, they cut and installed new mirrors for both sides for $30. |

Birdshot should work. I have several bags of #9 (trap& skeet) size if you want to try it. A coupe ounces on each side should do it. For what its worth my S3 feels more civilized than my S1 but doesn't provide the same level of joy when riding it. It certainly s more comfortable though |
