Am I the last of a dying breed of California Qucksilver carb users? I have a 96 S2T that came with one, updated it to the series 2 version and it has run well. The problem I am having now is when the engine is hot on a hot day the throttle has trouble dropping down to idle. It sticks at about 2000 rpms until I flick the throttle, then it drops down. I had to take it apart to replace a broken needle, could the needle need centering? I also note that when I open up to full throttle the engine bogs down a bit, when I ease back on the throttle it speeds up. Is this a rich main jet?
Yes, you may tell me to buy a Mikuni, no $$.

If I AM the only member of the Quicksilver club, that makes me the PRESIDENT!

I would say your lean. Check out the Mikuni tunning guide, it is a good outline.

hanging at 2k rpms could mean leaky intake gaskets. Try spraying brake cleaner where the intake manifold meets the heads to be sure. If your engine revs when you spray, then you've got a leak.

I had a similar problem with my XL1200S. It turned out to be that the mainjet was too large.

They also had a habit of gum and carbon making slide sticky so look at that. And seen several that shed corners of slide,cracked right off and went through motor.
Do you have the quick adjuster on top. Remember, left is lean right is rich. My manual had exact opposite.

Firemanjim: The original carb was leaking fuel, so much fuel that when riding in a group no one would ride behind me. They said I left a vapor trail! I sent that carb to Edelbrock and for $160 they sent me a Quicksilver II. A much better carb with a pumper. This one does not leak and has very nice throttle response. I will take it apart and check for gunk. A thorough cleaning and reassembly might fix it up. This one has the top adjuster for idle to 1/4 throttle mixture, it is set about right.
I think my main jet is too rich for full throttle.
If I had some $$$ I would get a CV or a Mikuni.

Guys, I really appreciate being able to kick these ideas around, there really isn't anyone to talk to about this thing.

Not proud to be in the club but as the last man standing, I gotta make it work (also I am broke).
