Bike has 11k on it. Sat a bit b4 I bought it. When I hold the front brake and push it forward/down there's a sight clunk noise. I checked the steering head bearings by jumping on it up and down no brake. No noise. Brake - noise but seems to be the forks. I'm guessing the springs have settled as it seems to happen at transition to full load and then back?

I want to do the suspension anyhow. Suggestions on something I might be missing? Steering nut seemed tight. Brake bolts tight, rotor too.

thanks,

chuck

Is this your 2000 m2?

Have you ruled out the rotor? Some of the floating rotors get pretty sloppy, on my Y2K cyclone I had the old rotor that got loose and would rattle - maybe yours loose enough to shift but not unless it's locked up by the brakes.

Perhaps you should have someone observe all these parts while you repeat your "thunk" test a few times.

I'd go through the procedure for tightening the steering head bearings, then check again for the noise.

Steering head bearing is the logical thing but it definitely sounds down low. I need an extra body to really shift it hard so I can hear it. I got a pregnant wife who just can't swing the bike the way it needs doin'

I'll report more when I know more. I swear it sounds like it's in the fork tubes but it makes no sense for it to be there..

Woohoo! Money saved, sorry you don't need new farkles for your forks.

Probably should have a rebuild anyhow since it's eight years old and sprung for skinny guys...
