I know all about doing a swap for USD forks, but is there any other easy, off the shelf improvements to be had from Buell? i haven't seen "race" springs for the M2. i am sure different springs could be sourced from one of the major suspension suppliers. are they worth improving?

I have heard good things about Race Tech valves and springs but I have no direct experience.

There may have been race only parts from Buell at one time too.

Maybe one of our Badweb vendors could shed some light on this.

I have my stock M2 forks reworked with Race Tech springs and Gold valves. Drag Specialities (Parts Unlimited) carries Race Tech components. Last I checked, Drag Specialties' listing for the valves was incorrect, they listed the 41mm valves for the S3/X1 as fitting the M2. Just use the part numbers on Race Tech's website to confirm the correct parts are being ordered. They can be ordered by any dealer that has a Parts Unlimited account (pretty much any dealer that is in business).

Forks I am happy with, shock is a lost cause. I got a Penske.

The forks I did myself at first, but somehow messed them up. I then sent them to GMD Computrack Boston to be rebuilt and they are much better. Can't beat the experience of someone who does this for a living.

So Buell never made any PRO series springs for the M2? They did for the USD forks. I wonder why?

Racetec is local to me.. I can get the forks redone. They claim they also redo the shock. I am skeptical also. I dunno if I want to pay for a penske. That's real commitment there! Cost more than my kid and my dog..


I just want something that will take out the sharp edged bumps..

I have the race tech compression valves in my M2, and racing springs. The stockers are, if I remember right, 0.77kg/mm and I replaced them with 0.95kg/mm. The compression valving I got matches the springs, but I don't beleive the rebound does. Racetech doesn't sell a kit to modify the rebound pistons, so a "pro shop" might be able to modify them to match.

I'm in the process right now of rebuilding my stock recall Showa, as I am on the list of those that can't afford a Penske. There's another member here (RickA?) that has rebuilt his Showa with RaceTech parts.

I've done enough research to know that the generic 40mm Showa kit fits inside the shock, and I got some valving reccomendations from RaceTech. I also had a custom spring made, but I haven't received it yet.

From a spring tester, the stock M2 Showa spring starts out around 350 lb/in and increases to around 400 lb/in (its progressive). I am getting a straight rate at 500 lb/in, and I also am having the spring made slightly shorter to (hopefully) get my static sag & preload right.

I plan to post up a bunch of pictures of the Showa's guts soon.

racetech helped me order the right springs and goldvalve kit for my M2, and it made a huge difference. I did the rebuild myself, but I am (usually) a fairly competent mechanic.
The rebound is adjustable by going to heavier fork oil, but the shimstack might havew to be adjusted if you did that, racetech should have a valving table for your application that will show how to set it up.

They also were able to rebuild my rear shock, but had no special kit like the goldvalve, and were at the time unable to respring it.

However, the straight rebuild made ot work atleast as good as new.

THe shock was 1 1/2 years ago, teh forks around 4 year ago
