Anyone here interested in a blow-by-blow HSR install with pix on an M2? Let me know.

I'd love to see that, Captainkirk. I plan on a TM40 (almost the same thing from what I understand) unless I get shouted down for good reason.

A TM40 is a much smaller, simpler carb and is also missing the rollers behind the slide, thus having a heavier return spring.

I am in love with the TM40 for what it did for the driveability of my CV40 equipped DR650. I expect the same results when I put one on the CV40 equipped Cyclone. Not looking for HP gains.

Don't Discount the CV40. I was on my way to a Mikuni 42 when I talked to ALOT of harley guys. After discussing the CV problems to them, which they all HAD IN THE PAST but no more. MY carb leaves tomorrow to be Blueprinted, needle changes, Properly jetted, Vacuum area rework, accelerator pump worked, etc. On a STOCK 1340cc with a PROPERLY setup CV carb picked up 10HP. Estimates on a 1200cc should be around 7hp, No CV Hiccup, smooth start, NO Flatspot problem. All for around $200. I have the names of 2 reputable guys and I can send you E-mail and links if interested. I will keep you posted.

Interesting! Where I come from (ThumperTalk) the CV40 is universally despised. This may have something to do with the fact that a thumper has the intake closed for a large part of the 4 stroke cycle. The vacuum piston bounces at low rpm. This wouldnt be as pronounced on multicylinder engines. The difference in smooth off idle grunt with a TM40 or FCR-MX39 is remarkable. I dont dispute your CV40 claims. Clearly somebody has put a lot of effort into making things right. I have just purchased a wideband A/F guage and plan to experiment. I'd like to have the links for the CV mods, thanks

Both are great carbs and I own examples of both. The HSR is on the Buell (it was designed for and is more appropriate to our V-twins), and the HS40 is going on a future thumper. The HSR is also easier to tune than the old HS/TM40 and is more durable.

If the CV is indeed set up right, a 7 hp difference is pretty rare. 2-3hp is more the norm.

I will keep posted. The only thing I am doing is Blueprinting CV40, X1 Cams, D&D Full exhaust not slip on, ignition module and crane Coil. I will then pop it on the dyno down the street from me.
