thanks court,
documentation that came with my rs indicated that sportster engines in the 900,000 serial range were "HD designated replacement engines, not intended for production motorcycles".
no mention was made of the prefix.
my bike, being a "kit" rs, has engine in this range. i was wondering if only the kit bikes had engines in this range, or did all rs/rss have engines that fall in this range.

thanks!

Mine's CAPM9xxxxx (1991 RS)

My RS was orig. purchased new from Spitzi's in Schenectady NY, so it wasn't a 'kit' (read - "California") bike. Is it correct that the 'kit' bikes were intended for CA sales and were designated kits to avoid having to establish CARB compliance?

Also, I'll bet the guys that bought those kits were highly pleased with the degree of 'pre-assembly' done on the kits by BMC!

I just noticed that my registration has an '8' where the 'P' should be, where it is listed under the "engine number ..." area on the reg! "CA8M9XXXXX"

When I registered it here in CA, I think the bozo oops - "inspector" that checked out the bike wrote it down wrong. He was the same knucklehead oops - "inspector" that insisted upon setting his aluminum fold-open clipboard on my custom painted S2 tank cover. I began intercepting it after the first time, and he NEVER did get it that maybe he should try setting that scratchy piece of crap clipboard elsewhere!

You're reading ahead.

: )

Think about it. . . if you had to ship 800 parts. . . what's the easiest way to keep them from banging about?

The key needed to be inserted by the owner as part of the assembly process and I can assure you that the bike would NOT RUN ON THE STREET if that assembly step were omitted.

I was always told that XR750s were shipped assembled for the same reason. Mechanics rebuilt them anyway, even when new.

Mine is CAPM9 too.

All 1991 RSS 1200's were supposed to be for the Japan market only. I've heard of at least one other 1991 RSS 1200 that has stayed in the states, however.

That's not the one that they brought to the Larz Anderson Museum was it?

If so. . . it was an RS that someone bought and RSS tail section for.

>>>>that's the one, beautiful bike,

It is a gorgeous bike. It was one of a number of bikes that was built as an RSS and shipped with two tail sections. That one is a beauty.

Keep us posted when they are going to have the uncrating . . . I love a road trip.

i'm going to plaster it all over badweb (we're going to be a sponsor real soon!).
this will be quite the event to see, we're going to cover the new 1125r in the middle of the sales floor on a diamond plate ramp and surround it with classic tubers all pristine!

Well that RS/RSS would be a dandy to include. It has an interesting history. I suspect the dealership would, given where you are located, REALLY benefit from Badweb sponsorship.

This is THE place where a dealer can actually break out of the mire that confines most Buell dealers. Threats from HD Dealer Relations won't do it . . a whining owner won't . . but a proud dealer willing to prove he/she has the mettle to do business the old fashioned way has much to gain here. . . . Ask Dave Stueve sometime how many HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of stuff he sold to people >500 miles from his showroom.

Buell owners are funny folks . . treat us good and it can be one of the best business decisions you'll ever make.

Congratulations and keep me posted. . . If I could make it up I'd love to see it!

Court
