Oh, I agree. My Hellcat and my XD-s are accurate far beyond where I'd use them. Not only for practicality, but also because of MD state (draconian) gun laws and Duty To Retreat laws - basically, if I engage someone who's THAT far away? I should have been able to safely retreat instead of engaging. Not to say that I *haven't* fired it accurately up to 30 yards or so....but 'right tool for the job' and all, I'd at the very least prefer a 5" 1911 for something at that distance.

I'm zeroed at 10 yards. MD live-fire requirements for licensing only go out to 15 yards. Anything further than that...I'm reaching for the Savage .308 bolt-action with Leupold VX-2.

My son and I went gun shopping yesterday. I finally got to handle a Sig Sauer P365 and a P365 SAS. The SAS sight was very different that what I'm used to but I kinda liked it. It would force keeping the gun straight instead of slightly left or right. The only thing I didn't like was the slide release is so small as to be useless.

Complicating the issue is that I also handled a Springfield Hellcat. I really liked it. Felt good in my hand, had a nice crisp trigger and is really small like the 365. It's also less expensive.

I don't think either is a bad choice.

I don't tend to release the slide on Semis with the lever. I pull back the slide & slingshot it, like John Moses Browning intended. I will thumb the release if one handed, like if I'm holding the Hostage taker by the neck and using him for cover. ; )

Of course, I was originally taught to keep my finger off the trigger, but straight index finger protocol was a later development in Safety Paranoia.

I don't object to safety, and my finger only goes into the guard just before firing but I got a chance to fire a 1889 Italian revolver with a folding trigger... no guard, the trigger folds forward for safety, and you release the safety by tugging the hammer, but you don't have to it, ( censored, means Rooster, or preparing a weapon for firing by compressing a spring, engaging a sear, ) although, why not go for the single action pull? ( it's a DA/SA revolver ) And even freaky-er to modern sensibilities, it had the Abadie System for reloading, where you open the gate, and that disconnects the hammer, and you then PULL THE TRIGGER REPEATEDLY while you load & unload it. On a gun with no trigger guard.

I have zero complaints with my first gen Hellcat.

They have a new (2.0) version with a different/updated trigger, and available external safety. I have had zero issues with my first gen trigger, and have no desire for an external safety since the internal sear block works just fine in concert with the bladed trigger safety. It's one less thing to have to think about, under duress.

Once in a while I'll carry my XD-s, and every time I do I'm amazed at how much HEAVIER it is than the Hellcat - even full-mag to full-mag (8+1 to 13+1). The XD-s, as great as it is...has been relegated to "house pistol", since the Hellcat carries so well for me. An example - I did, once again, 17 miles on the mountain bike on Sunday. Tee shirt, cargo shorts with a belt, over cycling shorts...and the Hellcat in my IWB holster. Don't even know it's there, physically or visually.

The only change I have made to my Hellcat was pulling the U rear sight (no glow), and replacing it with a TruGlo TFX rear sight. I already had a factory tritium front sight with a glow-ring on it, and the TruGlo mates perfectly with it elevation-wise, and adds tritium vials with glow rings. I got a full set of TruGlo's (any XD/XDS sight will work on a NON-OSP Hellcat; the OSP uses different dovetails and they will not work there), so if I had issues with elevation I could have installed the front one as well, but since it works (I eyeballed the dot height side-by-side before installing the rear, just to be safe)...I avoided smacking the gun with a hammer and punch any more than I had to!

If you can...SHOOT the 365's and the Hellcat before you buy. Just because. Neither is a bad gun, but the Hellcat handled so much better for me, there was no comparison.

Found out today that on the P365 SAS that I can swap out the slide release and install one from the regular P365. That makes the gun more palatable to me.

Now I just need to find one that doesn't require a second mortgage. Local prices for the SAS model have been running right around $650 to $725. Mail order I should be able to get one for around $575.

Today on the way home from the doctor's office I stopped by a gun shop recommended to me. I pulled the pin and brought home a Sig Sauer P365 SAS. Got it for $599. I have be online shopping for a week now and the best price I found was $579. When you add in the cost of the receiving FFL $599 is about as good as I could hope for. I haven't had a chance to play with it yet but the range is open tomorrow. Tonight I'll disassemble it and clean/lube it.

I thought hard about the Springfield Hellcat but the Sig fit my hand a bit better. Plus reviews have said the Hellcat is a touch more snappy.

Have you shot one?

From behind the trigger, it is amazingly well-behaved.

yeah , i've shot one and i like my Ruger LC9pro better. we were shooting 115gr. from the Hellcat .what i've heard is short guns behave better with heavier bullets. ( bullet choices are harder to come by in our current enviroment ).

I would much rather have most anything else over an LC9 or EC9S. They're just a slightly nicer KelTec PF9.

Glock 43X, Springfield Hellcat, Sig Sauer P365, Smith Wesson Shield Plus, and even the Ruger Max9 are all better guns with better capacities in a similar size with less felt recoil.

The G48 and 365XL are guns big enough that you may as well just carry something that's a bigger, better shooter, IMO.

The 365X I like.

So now that I have my P365, I have yot get holsters. For in the pocket carry I'm going to get a Galco Nemesis soft holster. I think it will also going to be in my waist band some too. So I'm looking for IWB holsters and so far these are what I've liked. I'm open to suggestions, what works for you?

My Hellcat and my XD-s both live in Alien Gear IWB hybrids. I have a Cloak Tuck (leather base panel, screw-on belt clips) and a Cloak Tuck 3.5 (neoprene-coated stainless base, and twist-lock belt clips). I actually prefer the leather to the stainless, it doesn't dig into my quad near as much when seated (more flexible material). A little loctite on the screws to hold the belt clips....it's my daily.

I looked at Alien Gear and they make good stuff but it's all to big for what I want. Think minimalist. The smaller the footprint the better.

I broke down today and bought a kydex holster. I got the Tulster profile. After I've used it a bit I'll do a short product review.

It's no bigger than the firearm when worn. The base panel is against your skin, no bulk, and unlike OWB...it's totally invisible because it's INSIDE your pants/shorts. The kydex is molded to the body of the pistol, near-zero added bulk there. The kydex mounting wings float inside the fabric triangle as your pants transition from kydex shell, to your skin, so they're invisible as well.

I'll do 30+ miles on the C&O canal on my mountain bike. Cargo shorts and a basketball jersey...no printing, no interference in riding, nobody knows. Gray man.

So I went ahead and got a leather pocket holster for the P365. It's from Witmer Custom Leather. I got the natural finish but they also tool it with reptilian scales. The picture shows an LCP but it will come fitted for a P365.

Aren't these people supposed to uphold an oath to the Constitution?

Anyone who uses the term "assault weapon" as if it is valid has no business in anything firearms related.

Correct! Until it was purged from Wikipedia, the creator of the Agitprop term to frighten the ignorant ( and the vast majority are ignorant of the technology ) was quoted and his goals openly listed.

"assault weapon" is a made up phrase with zero real meaning. It has ONE PURPOSE, to destroy your rights.

~Newsom said the decision "is a direct threat to public safety and the lives of innocent Californians, period." He argued that "the fact that this judge compared the AR-15 – a weapon of war that’s used on the battlefield – to a Swiss Army knife completely undermines the credibility of this decision

https://www.foxnews.com/us/california-democrats-as sault-weapons-ban-failed-experiment

And the fact that the AR15 is not a weapon of war and is not used by the military means you’re either a moron, a liar, or both.

So Chris Chipman, Biden’s nominee for BATF director, stated on Friday in response to Senate questioning that “assault rifles” are defined as semi-auto rifles with detachable magazines and greater than .22 caliber, which he noted includes all the common AR15 .223 caliber rifles

That then means that all .22 caliber and below semi-auto rifles of any form would be excluded from “assault rifle“ regulations.

That means that all AR15’s using the devastating Ruger .204 cartridge (the highest velocity commercial SAAMI cartridge made, and which cuts through body armor like butter) are good to go.

It also means that all the AK74’s which shoot the old Soviet 5.45x39mm cartridge with its 0.220” caliber bullet are also good to go.

The guy is supposed to be some kind of subject matter expert, a former employee of ATF. A longtime gun control activist. He’s just another ignorant soy boy gun-grabber.
