Just for what it is worth.
The Ruger plant in Prescott is up and running and has been despite this WUFLU stupidity.
They even have a sign that says they are hiring.

That is nigh Webley Ugly! I Love it!
Industrial chic.

I wanna see the fixtures for machining that beast.

Olde School gun making went from one guy making many of the parts, to dedicated work stations making one part, fast, as precise as needed, in vast numbers. Interchangeable parts, mind you. Each station could be as simple as a clamp and block shaped to hold the part ( as it existed at that stage in it's manufacture ) and the human would put the part in the fixture and drill a hole. Repeat. Up to entire machine stations with multiple heads attacking a part from different angles.

Today, with CNC milling machines you have multiple fixtures for each part. That's specialized tooling. The machine is nearly universal. From hundreds of individual work stations with mills, drills, grinders, etc. It's just one. One station, one machine.

Because specialized operations using bar stock or grinding ( coolant filtering needs ) are more efficient as specialized machines, the modern high capability shop has roughly the same mix of lathe, mill, grinder, etc. as a hundred years ago.

Kimber comes to mind as using the ability of CNC machining to create new texture patterns to in part, save money on checkering cost, and establish a style. Golf ball dimples!

Re: magnumizing a 1911...

Agree. I occasionally get an urge to get a 10mm. I lie down until it goes away. The 1911 is a classically balanced gun. .45 ACP shoots perfectly & is a proven performer.

Although there are some long slide hunting 1911s in 10mm that I like. I just haven't had the need for a 200 yard pistol.

But now with anti-social distancing!

I would disagree. They've gone from semi-custom with poor customer support to a solid production gun on par with others in the respective price ranges. The days of "shoot five hundred rounds then get back to us" are gone and they're expected to work out of the box. They have the most choices and varieties in lightweight frames/carry guns, and I can respect that.

If I was spending 2K or more I'd choose something other than a top grade Kimber.

Kimber quality has declined sharply.
I have to disagree,
I own 2 a 1911 & a micro 9, only the 9 was new.
The 1911 required some tweeks, BUT it was used. Biggest problem was so how the trigger stop screw on the 1911 got jammed and I had to replace the trigger assy.

I hope not to de-rail this pistol discussion too much, but I can't help but to share a new toy!
I picked up an old rifle from a friend and I think it's pretty cool.

I've never been old gun guy, so I'm a total noob at this. It's a 1975 Colt Sporter SP-1 .223 1/12 barrel in totally stock configuration as far as I know, and super clean!. Got a little compartment in the buttstock, sling loops, a bayonet lug and all the cool-guy stuff!

He was paying back some favors so I don't know what it's worth, but it does get attention when I take it somewhere. Not sure if I should shoot it or put it in the safe?

For now I'm just having fun researching it: )
I need an A-1 style grip and straight trigger guard, but I think thats it?

I'll put FMJ on repeat and hug it on the couch, just to freak out the GF

Nice gun. A collectable at this point if unmolested. Don't shoot anything heavier than 55gr.

It's not going to be worth so much that you can't shoot it

Being seen in public with it might get you arrested. Definitely research local and state regs before leaving the house with it.

Orphan guns that are banned in a state exist, and have limited local resale value. I'm not publicly admitting to have been asked about any! But if I was, in New York I might tell the person to quietly take it to a FFL dealer out of state to sell, and drive like you don't want to be stopped, courteous and invisible. If there's a Federal regulation that screws you for interstate transportation, by all means, you know, be aware. And if you want to keep it for nostalgia purposes, perhaps a time capsule approach? But that precludes movie time caresses! ( so I suggest selling if it isn't allowed by a tyrant )

I ordered an Olight PL Mini 1 and a holster for it. The light that came in was the 2, so I had to contact the holster maker to switch the order. What a pain. Why can't anything be simple?

It looks a little better on subcompact guns...but is a better light.

So...anyone have suggestions for bedside shotgun storage? Been looking around. Found some brackets that fit between mattress and box spring, simple U-cups to hold stock and barrel...

Nah.

I want grab-n-go.

Mossberg tactical pump, cruiser-ready.

I wanna reach; grab; pump; and be ready to fire.

These are what I'm looking at - they velcro between mattress and box spring. psproducts

My side of the bed is away from the door, against an exterior wall. If anyone comes in the house empty, they'll see a "bedroom" and move on. No good stuff here.

If a thief comes in, they will look all around the bed and under the pillows and mattress. People hide their precious near their bed. Consider every gun loaded until you need it to be loaded. I have stared down a shotgun a guy pointed at me. I had been in his bedroom already and unloaded it. And I was not a thief.

Within reach with a round chambered.
If you aren't the sort of person who is ready and aware when you wake up then keep it in the closet or under the bed.

Personally, I'm of the mind that guns are either locked up or on somebody's person.

I could see having a rifle next to the bed as I slept, but it needs to go back to it's own bed when I get up to leave.

Pistol is within reach while showering, getting dressed, and holstered as soon as the pants go on. It's like putting on a pair of socks, which is actually next in line.

Shorts, undershirt, pants w/belt and holster, pistol, socks, boots, outer shirt, wallet to left front pocket, phone to right front pocket, eyewear, hat, keys in hand.

That's 95 seconds because of the boot laces. If wearing tennis shoes, then it's 70 seconds.

I keep an AR out when I'm around and a night stand gun. There's backup in safes, if needed. If someone wants your stuff, they'll get it. The devices we buy to keep our stuff secure only buys time. The stuff we keep to protect ourselves is only useful in our direct control. That's certainly true.

I have my EDC on me at all times...but when I get home and out of my street clothes (house sweats or shorts), EDC goes in the safe. I agree with the "locked up or on my person" where that's concerned, as well as for my .308 rifle and everything else in the safe.

"Stuff"...I'd likely let them have. It's all insured. The shotgun is there for ME. And if someone gets all the way upstairs to poke around in the first place...there must not be anyone home. And if I get home and somebody is inside...I'm smart enough to call it in before I try and "clear" anything inside.

And, I'll never store it with a round chambered. No drop safety is the main reason. I can rack it as I raise it, doesn't take any additional time at all.

I'm not worried about anybody stealing guns, it's just that I have a minor child still living at home. Not really worried about her, but her friends... well, who knows what other people teach their children about poking around where their noses don't belong.

There are times when we have 4 or 5 teenage girls sleeping over.
