People like them. Known for being accurate, smooth shooting, reliable...and being a bit bulky.

I'd prefer the 'ol 92, but that's just me.

With the Dems winning out in this last election in Virginia, I'm probably going to have to face getting Maryland-style gun laws and having a less scary-looking gun for the range.

Just getting low cap mags won't be enough.

You're unfortunately correct.

You do what you practice.

I'm in the "combat computer" school of martial arts. You develop a menu of moves, and choose from the menu as you react to the other person or situation. ( this applies to riding, flying, skiing, any quick reaction activity )

If you have to think about how to do what you want, you are slow & will lose. Or fall. Or hit something...whatever...

Katas, repetition practice, ingrains the moves, eventually, : ) on a below conscious level. The aware brain part just picks the moves you want, it doesn't have to perform them in real time.

There's a lot of different ways to describe how it works. The one I use makes sense for a western guy with some concept of programming, and uses that language, but the concept is the same across cultures.

I think "Alpha state" or "no mind" interchangeably. A good sparring partner says I'm a "thinking" fighter. He's half right. I try to observe and flip through the flash cards of my options as I walk up to a fight, then let it happen.

The safety goes off when you are about to shoot. You practice to make that automatic, and use your higher brain functions to make it somewhat deliberate, at the same time. It'a a choice. Don't limit yourself by choosing not to have one to make.

From training with a 1911 I sometimes wonder if the trigger or the safety makes it go bang.

He's not SCA, that's a different rule & weapon group. So I probably haven't met him.

Nice axe though. : )

World wide there are several different groups using very different weapons and rules. Authenticity, techniques, and attitudes vary a lot.

And it's not LARPing. LARPing is fun, but uses soft weapons and light contact, and spells! ( toss a bean bag, yelling "fireball!" )

Possibly the most "fun" to watch is the HMB guys. I know most of the U.S. team. Full contact, metal, blunt, "bulb edged" swords etc. Full heavy metal armor. 1 on 1, & melee. Basically you hammer your foe into the ground. Limited grappling allowed, otherwise it would be rude tackle & toss Wrestling. Spectacular bruises.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_the_Nati ons_(Medieval_Tournament)

Plenty of videos on the web to watch.

The SCA is more "serious" than the guys the news report showed, To compensate for the un-choreographed and full contact fighting, we use rattan swords and great weapons, and padded spear points. Also no grappling, or hits below the knee. Etc. ( rules @ SCA.org ) It's more limited & polite than HMB, & there's a lot of crossover guys.

Not enough room to list all the different groups.

Like Karate & the other martial arts there is wide variety in emphasis ( tournament vs. mayhem ) and endless argument over "best".

I have opinions. ; )

They are ALL good for different purposes and reasons.

My open hand training was in combat Tai Chi. Yeah, the old folk in the park slow dance stuff. Every move is a block or a broken part on the attacker, if done with intent at speed. For the martial arts guys, circular, defensive, soft. There's only one punch in the short form kata. ( Yang style )

My home D firearm build is getting an SBA4 brace.

It's the stockiest looking brace I've ever seen. The gun currently wears a buffer tube with a cane tip. The girlfriend wishes to get proficient with it, and the bare buffer tube proves awkward...though I find it perfectly adequate.

My 16" rifle is getting this alloy FF tube.

It should weigh less than what's on it...which is stainless steel draped in plastic.

It will also utilize this LWRC "PDW" flash hider.

It's half the length of the current PWS FSC combo device that makes a racket I'm simply tired of. It's 1/2" shorter than an A2 flash hider. I want it as short, light, and effective as possible. It seems to fit the bill. It also tickles me that it's reminiscent of the device used on the original "dissipator" carbine, the Colt 605, albeit in modern guise.

Lastly, the 7" "honey badger" will get the internals and barrel from the 4.5" 22lr as well as a 5.5" flash hider for unsuppressed use. #8 here:

This will be a fancy 22LR.

As much as I like it, this will be gone:

The guts of my 7" 5.56 will reside here...and it will also be sold.

It's actually considered a gas shield. There's one on my 22lr and 9mm. Keeps particulates out of the face when shooting blowback guns. The blowback guns actually don't need a brass deflector.

I spent the day reconfiguring guns. Ended up with guns, tools, and parts all over the place. The stuff I'll be left with is pretty sweet. My AR-22 is now fancy as hell.

I just need some very minor items...such as an A2 flash hider, a crush washer, and a castle nut (one of them looks used and abused).

The slide work was a bit much, but holy crap, does it make it easier to manipulate the slide!

Wow. What barrel is that? Stock sights???

I'm a little bummed about selling my 15-22. It's truly set up perfectly. It has such a great feel and balance. That said, it is quite redundant (I have a sweet 10/22 rifle and the remaining AR 22 pistol) and I can only make money on it.

Since my pending ex wife has my SBR lower and refuses to relinquish it, I decided to sell only the 7" upper. The spare lower has been set up as a pistol lower for the 9mm. It can stay that way indefinitely for all I care.

Me? Barrel is a 40 to 9mm conversion barrel from Black Bear Armory, 1/2x28 threads.

I have ordered new suppressor height sights to put on, but they haven't shipped yet.

Have you started the whole Form 1 application and build yet?

I see.

No. I ended up just buying a Huntertown Guardian. They're now defunct...but it's still better than a home made jobber.

I still have to get fingerprints and passport photos so I can submit the paperwork and pay my $200. I kinda ran out of money so I have to wait for some items to sell.

Suppressor height sights are not necessary with that can, and it sounds decent as well.

Running drills with my pistol caliber pistol.

Not the best outing, but acceptable.

A guy down the line asked if it was an "automatic." Some guys were just shooting a machine pistol. I'll take it as a compliment.

People were poking fun at my red dot. It works and fits the theme. I put a C-More on it momentarily. It just didn't look right.

Running drills with my 7" "honey badger" repurposed as a 22LR with a 4.5" CMMG bolt assy and barrel.

Surprisingly, it was damn near zeroed right off the bat.

While I agree with the WV bill for the most part...(I think they coddle the left a bit too much by saying "gun-free zones are OK"), I can see how the left will spin it into "the NRA is doing this to force people to allow more guns and make us all less safe". Because the left thinks empirically that "more guns" equal "less safety".

Except where their personal security staff is concerned.

I urge anyone who has a carry permit to know their state's law regarding "no gun" signs posted on businesses. Some states give those signs force of law; some states do not. Know your laws.

When I lived in FL I noticed many from GA visiting and open carrying unaware of FL laws. Now in GA I come to find that there are no state statutes allowing open carry...public open carry is a county by county thing. It's troubling how many people believe what is acceptable under the law based on public opinion alone.

If opinions count for anything, If there is not a statute saying some part of open carry is illegal, then open carry is not illegal.

Maryland - once you have a permit, which is the hurdle - does not distinguish between open or concealed. Which is why it is called a "wear and carry" permit, not a "concealed carry" permit.

Open is poor tactics, though...

Recently the ATF has finally clarified how to measure AR pistols for overall length. Since a brace isn't considered an integral part of a firearm per their definitions braces do not count towards OAL measurements, and pistols with folding or collapsing braces are to be measured folded or fully collapsed. Firearms with a VFG must be measured from the end of a bare buffer tube to the barrel threads or permanently affixed muzzle device. It's pretty much the opposite of how a rifle OAL is measured, and is contrary to their own previous technical letters to manufacturers.
https://www.recoilweb.com/measuring-the-overall-le ngth-of-a-pistol-atf-has-altered-the-deal-151346.h tml

They recently shut down a small manufacturer making such guns who were inadvertently running afoul of their current regulatory opinion.
