Yes, more than a shell. But Apple could with no effort run their OS on a PC. They do now. It's just that by choosing to only sell it bundled, they only need to bother with one set of drivers.

The work to make their OS a universal one is not trivial, but relatively easy.

They won't, for two reasons. They make more money with less effort this way. The deal with Microsoft is they don't. Not stupid reasons.

Zac4mac, BS on my Apple 'tude? Or the fear factors? : )

As with Airbozo, it's a matter of geeky technicality, ( & I could be wrong ) & corporate cynicism. On the Apple subject.

My own sister uses Apple computers. She has her software reasons. Work related, but she also plays MMORPG.

I won't. I am a recovering Online Gaming Addict. No need to hold an AA type confession, just take my word. I hit my bottom (40+ hours a week ) and went cold turkey.

Funny enough, I've had multiple people tell me " you are retired, so just go play X for fun! "

Which is like saying "you don't need to take random drug tests at work anymore, so smoke as much opium as you want!"

Yeah.... I could. I just won't.

Patrick

It's the same BS I've heard for almost 30 years.
Apple is overpriced, their system is too proprietary, etc.
In the 90s it was so.

Apple has never made cheap hardware but it's no more expensive than PC stuff at the same level of quality.
The 90s were a blast playing with grafix PCs couldn't touch.

I'm an amateur photographer, Adobe didn't make Photoshop for PCs until the naughties.
I started using it at version 2 in 1991. Included with my 512ke that had an 8Mhz processor and no hard drive(2-1.44MB floppy drives).

When Apple went to Intel for processors, a lot of the exclusivity went away.
It also meant I can run Windows on my Mac(I have XP on my 11 year old laptop) and RAM and hard drives and CD-ROM/DVD drives just work at no "Apple Premium".
My old Macs ran SCSI peripherals which always needed a rubber chicken and incantations to work right.
But when you got it right, everything was so fast. I don't miss SCSI at all tho.
I'm a lot older and really appreciate "easy".

Honestly, nowadays, there is no difference in capability between Apple and the unwashed masses on PCs.
It all comes down to taste, and I love my quad core iMac, iPad mini and iPhone 7.

Those SCSI CD players! Same hardware but different firmware as PC parts, at many times the price.

I sure have to admit their mp3 players, etc. are ergonomic gold. I have a drawer full of OTHER mp3 players, and many are unusable without the manual to explain the arcana of switches with worn off decals, or even brand new. And none have the same method for the "three unmarked tiny switches in a row".

Apple, otoh, you can hand an I thing to me, and I'm playing tunes and adjusting volume in seconds, never having touched one before. No manual, no instructions, intuitive and easy.

Any OS difficulties are habit and knowledge based. Like French for a German speaker.

Ah... I'd almost forgotten SCSI. I had a four disc raid, 3 gigs each! Glass disc, IBM secret squirrel server drives, 10,000 rpm.

I had them do sequential start up to reduce the power spike, so it was very entertaining to fire up my PC. One drive spins up to a high pitched jet whine, then another, and another...

Then drivers became unavailable, IBM told their customers to kiss off. I should sell that stuff to a collector. Apple would still support it if it was theirs. But it would have cost $1000 more.

But, I suppose I should apologize for making intemperate religious blasphemous remarks. ; )

And... My basement PC had the Ethernet part of the Motherboard go bad. It's the E-mail system, Windows XP, Intel Dual Core, Nforce chipset, far newer video card.

No problem, I think, I've got a Wi-Fi card with fancy separate antenna. XP refuses to use it. Huh? Worked before. Oh, the heck with it. Reinstall Windows. Four times. Refuses to use card. By now I've nuked the drive multiple ways, no files left. I figure the Motherboard is the issue, start shopping. The one board actually in stock is a basic unit, hmm. Anything fancy is used, unavailable, or $450. Collectors item. Wee.

So, time for board/chip/memory upgrade. Shop. I'm considering AMD for the first time since I caught a chip on fire 15+ years ago.

Then the copy of Windows 10 arrives. Wi-Fi works. Urgency of new board less.

Just 2 complaints. Thought I'd try Edge browser, even though local radio guru says "noooooo!!!!!. Wow! Slow and glitchy. His advice was good.

Second, Windows wants to e-mail me my pin #?
This is my email box. Cause & effect impossible. Ok....
Reinstall. Deny any knowledge of e-mail, use phone, get text, runs fine. Now Microsoft has multiple accounts it must reconcile. I haven't reinstalled email. It's so peaceful.

And this was the Facebook machine. Only so I could look at the kitten pictures a lady friend Must Share. Too lazy to look up password. It's so peaceful.

Buddy wants me to install new Borderlands everything pack. For over $100. It was so peaceful...

Shadenfreude! You're soaking in it!

In an American translation, this is Trump losing to Bernie because he was rejected by conservatives for losing the Border Crisis.

The analogy isn't perfect. The personalities are different. But Boris/Bernie aren't that different, Boris is more honest in his hate. And May is more Pence than Trump. Trump as Cameron, maybe?

Obama as Chavez & Hillary as Maduro are closer..... We escaped that by a hair, and the Electoral college.

Not sure about the assumption that Julian is a Russian agent. His lack of attacks on Putin alleged here can be simple self preservation.

After all, surely you've noticed that "protesters" never, ever, protest people that will kill them. Only protest America that won't, because, Constitution.

My biggest trigger is "Feminism" types that accuse me of unconscious and constant sexual predation by breathing, while never, ever, protesting Pakistan.

Or the utter lack of criticism for Vladimir, or any Communist murderer, for decades!, in the Mainstream Democrat Media, including the next President, Hillary, until the moment her campaign decided to pay Russian "informants" and start the Bad Orange Man Russian Collusion excuse/coup.

In their case,it wasn't fear of being poisoned by Vladimir, it was systemic Useful Idiocy, and deliberate revolutionary zeal.

So Julian as Russian agent? Maybe, maybe not. That his organization ( tiny as it may be ) has proven more honest than CNN, unfortunately, proves nothing. Most anyone is more honest than CNN.

My experience with the very smart people it has been my privilege to know is that the very smart – not at all to be confused with the merely “edumacated” — are almost NEVER bored, unless stuck in an airport with CNN shrieking hatefully at them. If they max out on one thing, the very smart will just go ahead and teach themselves another language or learn to crochet or fly a plane or design a giant model railroad or make their own ammo or make a spreadsheet inventorying all their ammo, or manage their Fantasy Baseball Teams or do Mensa-level Sudoku with math involved.

Sitting in camp last summer, with a film maker, his wife the investment banker, a communication company manager, and a student friend of the film maker.... The comm company lady asks the student his major...banking, enjoying his internship. She offers career advice, study blockchain & analytics. Then explains blockchain. Then explains analytics. ( I'm just keeping the Mimosas coming )

The 13 year old son of the film maker has been a toy blogger since he was 8, and now is a DARPA competition kid, with his own 3d printing setup he uses to make new Transformer toys.... That the factory looks at. His kid sister may be influencing the next Disney Princess line of toys and movies.

Nah, smart folk don't get bored. The do something, even if it's only learn. More. Always.

And that's what the Dems prey upon, with their "equality" preaching. "How dare you be smarter in order to succeed, and leave all the lesser-creatures in the inner cities behind?"

"Land of Opportunity" doesn't mean success to them - it means potential/probable failure, since that's the base they prey upon.

It seems to me that the most effective thing the President could do is to announce we look forward to making a fair and profitable trade deal with Great Britain when they leave the E.U. On schedule this week. Because we are about to sanction the E.U. for violating it's own human rights laws to profit from an illegal relationship with a terrorist organization, the government of Iran.

We're willing to take on China, so the E.U. Doesn't scare us at all. Macron wants his own European army? Good luck without American money. Merkel wants to join with Russia? We know history. And we stand with Poland. This time. We know we only have to wait a short time before that partnership gets to back stabbing. This isn't our first Rodeo.

Delay until dead.

The VA bureaucrats who took bonuses for lying about doing their jobs, still have their jobs. Obama did nothing at all to help veterans.

And Agent Orange? A generation of cancer victims and the next of birth defects, is going to seem like a ripple when the next wave hits, and it is rising.

What wave?

WMD poisoning. Nerve and mustard gas exposure, from I.E.D.s where AQ stole poison gas artillery shells from the many bunkers Saddam ordered his WMDs dispersed to, after painting over the markings. ( as documented by the U.N. Inspectors ) And from poison gas released by demolishing the bunkers, per New York Times.

The poison gas, counted, documented, then lost by the U.N. when Clinton ended inspections.

The denied exist poison gas shells that are still so many the British spent a fortune building a special incinerator to destroy.

The denied exist stockpile of poison gas shells that were denied gathered by coalition forces, near the incinerator. That were threatened by ISIS forces advancing on Baghdad, that panicked coalition forces to reinforce Iraqi troops to prevent capture, then use in Obama's Wars.

Those WMDs. The poison gas affecting unknown numbers of U.S. and coalition troops that the VA is denying treatment to, because according to Obama/Clinton propaganda says..... Don't exist.

The biggest lie has been for years that George Bush went to war by lying about poison gas. Even though Hillary Clinton voted for the war, since she & Bill KNEW the poison gas was real. Then lied.

Because...Bush Was Hitler! Aka partisan politics.

Between nerve gas, and the nearly as toxic antidotes, we have a new generation of Veteran Health Care Crisis, that is denied existing.

It's likely that Obama did nothing to address the fraud at the VA because he is a veteran hating communist thug. But he also had the motivation to maintain the NO WMD lie he ran on.

He was willing to expedite the murder of Americans and Mexicans in Fast & Furious to cover his lies. Killing veterans is a win win for him to cover another.

It says a lot about how stupid they think you are that politicians can blame Reagan for selling Saddam WMDs ( partially true, but not exactly ) and tell you they don't exist.

Never mind yesterday's lie, today's lie is what you must believe.

Rush, years ago, would play the mantra of the day. Tucker does that now, sometimes, where every Democrat says the exact same thing, word for word, like they are trained parrots.

They are. Obama had a team that daily issued the mantra. Journo-list published it. Now they do the same thing, but in a different, private, server. ( once Journo-list was outed ) But who writes the script, today? Is George Stephanopoulos still on it? ( he was, under Obama ) I assume it's Hydra. Soros sponsored.

Soros's relationship with Putin is.... Complicated. They were once allies. May still be, but Putin publicly despised him now, which means nothing.

And Soros's Wikipedia page has been rewritten by his staff. I'm surprised he's not divine there.

https://mosaicmagazine.com/response/israel-zionism /2019/04/an-american-perspective-on-israels-electi on/

My life's perspective on the problem of Palestine says the current thief government not only fails to care about it's people, it considers them as human shields.

As to solutions, because Gaza has been taken by Hamas, who won't willingly give up power in an election, or any other reason, I would treat it as a hostile power holding it's people hostage, and deal with it separately from Palestine.

On the East side of Israel, the Golan heights have been repeatedly fought over with Syria. And I'd consider that conquered land, and no need to discuss it further. Trump's recognition of the status quo makes that easier. I don't know why Obama decided to attack Abbas, but there's no need to give him anything in repayment, and many reasons to support Israel, the Kurds, and Iraq against him, Putin, and the religious dictatorship in Turkey. Not giving Syria back land where they can place artillery to shell your capitol is reason enough to keep it.

That leaves the West Bank, and there I would declare the PLA as a failed kleptocratic criminal organization, and offer the population a choice, become citizens of Jordan, or Israel. Because the PLA would never allow such a vote, one imagines the first door to door full nation poll conducted by an invading army. The mind boggles.

The spy novel fan in me predicts that the issue of the West Bank will be ended by Iranian nuclear weapons smuggled in by trucks and used by Iran to massacre Palestinians to try and start WW3.

Or such a murderous false flag operation could target Gaza.

Or if you go an extra layer of double think, a Jew hating cabal in the Socialist Democrat Party could be responsible if they were in power in the U.S. The twisty mindedness of leftists using Nazi logic to murder Gazans to destroy Israelis is obviously insane.

You'd need people so mentally ill that they'd spend years threatening to impeach the President without any crimes being mentioned besides the Clinton Campaign claims he paid hookers to urinate on a bed in Moscow Obama slept in once. Not that there is any evidence this ever happened.

So President Warren and Vice president Rice nuking Gaza seems kinda sane by comparison.

I attend the movies hardly at all anymore, thanks to Hollywood's antics. I can't see the character for the repugnant actor or actress

AMEN.

I find it increasingly difficult to separate the actor from the role, especially when they make such a point about being stupid, repugnant, and socialist. Sometimes it upsets me - I was sorry to hear that the actor who plays Captain America apparently suffers from TDS - sometimes, it just...is. Like Bobby DiNiro - he's always been an arrogant prick, and his current hatred of our President is zero surprise.

I have immense respect for performers who simply keep their mouths shut, though. Tom Selleck comes to mind. Jay Leno. Harrison Ford. Don't really know their politics...don't care. I enjoy watching them work. If I have to DIG to see if your political preferences match mine...you're doing your job correctly.

You are the Court Jester, nothing more. Entertain me, then you may leave.
