Hey now...I love my pug!

I do agree on the man-bun though - and I used to have hair to my waist. Ponytail...but still.

But still, we never put it into a bun!

I had long hair in my mid to late teens until one day I rolled over my own hair with mechanic's creeper. Man that hurt!
That day I went to the barber and had him cut it short. Been that way every since.

Zane, LOL!!!

A kid I work with is sporting a bun now. Problem is, he's forgotten to shave the back of his neck properly. Too bad, he's a great, smart kid, good looking... when he transferred in, he looked like a young Roy Orbison. Now he's got contacts and looks like a kid from Twilight or something.

Joe- pugs are cool as heck, but they get stinky. Same goes for Boston Terriers. We're gonna have to give our Jack Ha-Ha and Basenji both a bath today, yay.

I cut my hair when I started riding a lot. Wavy hair, helmet-head and wind...not good.

My pug is fairly stink-free, other than the face-roll cheese. A daily face wipe with a handi-wipe takes care of that : ) (and she loves the attention!)

I had hair halfway down my back.

Girls wear ponytails. Men wear warriors' tails.

Even if it's 100 degrees outside I prefer to wear a hoodie when I crawl under the cars to do work so I can manage my ponytail. The man bun is not an option in my book.

Warriors Braid. I had one, but unbraided it was a Stallion tail.

A previous fiancee ( didn't work out, we're still friendly ) loved me in long hair, so I indulged her, putting up with the effort, and getting the tail to about mid back. When we broke up, I promptly went to a barber and had it cut off, but saved it to glue to a bike helmet... but never did. Oddly, it's not the same color as my hair now. : )

It was fun to have the ladies braid my hair before tournaments, no one laughs at a 6' guy in 14th century battle armor if he has a ribbon in his braid. Without the armor I just assume they were jealous. As a part of putting on the War Face/getting Zen/psych prep, getting your hair braided by chattering women making jokes is actually darn good.

I never had a man bun, but the top knot style, seen on Samurai, is to prevent others from grabbing your hair, and to act as a bit of padding in a helmet.

The first military hair rules on record are from Alexander the Great, who mandated short hair to give the enemy nothing to grab.

As my Sifu said, many years ago, about long hair, "if they give you a handle to bash their head on something hard, use it".

An alternative, that will really mess with the man bun crowd, is to "club" your hair to keep it out of the way in active life.

https://washingtoncountyregiment.wordpress.com/2010/04/05/hair-clubbing/

Bells & feathers optional.

You can also Club a braid, by tying it back on itself, without the cloth strip. or with the cloth strip interwoven to make a contrasting color pattern. I learned to do my own clubbed braid for fighting and riding without mirror or a ribbon. The ladies loved to use a pink or "pretty fabric" cloth on big guys.

Hey, it makes them happy, my hair not catching on stuff made me happy, and, like I said, no one laughs.... no, that's a lie, other guys in battle armor laugh. But like I said, they're just jealous.

Hell, I have hair half way down my back too. It’s starting to come out my ears, as a matter of fact. The irony is, I’m going bald.

Don't let an opponent grab you by the ear hairs. That really hurts

I love how we are always warned not to stick a padded Qtip in your ear, but rotary cutting tools are sold for that purpose.

( Seriously, don't jam sticks in your ears. Use water hoses! ; )

I don't know why, but, I like pulling the ear hair out with tweezers. My own not other peoples. When I hired in at the foundry my hair was past my belt. Only took one day in there before it was 4 inches long.

IIRC, Alexander the Great was the first to mandate beard shaving; kept his men from many a neck-slit death.

I had a ponytail before my 6 years in the Navy and almost the whole time since.
Not as long as it used to be, but still not white at 63.

Don't like short hair.

I used to have hair down to my waist. Now days I have hair like Yoda. It only grows from my ears.

I did the long hair hung up in the creeper thing a few times. What I hated was transmission fluid. That stuff was hard to get out.

I had hair half way down my back until my second week of boot camp. I missed the hair cut line to make a phone call so they "punished" me by making me wait 2 weeks to get it cut off. Probably _the_ worst 2 weeks of my life. I tried to let it grow back after I got out of the Navy, but it never looked right or felt right. Now I keep it short, because helmet head is not a good thing around customers...

I still don't get why old men have a need to just let their hair grow. In most cases it just looks like you are homeless and have given up on yourself. My neighbor is the prime example. He started letting his hair go when he hit 55 and when he got laid off at 60, no one would hire him. I told him to cut his hair and he might get some offers, but so far he refuses. He's still unemployed 2 years later. But hey, he's got long hair...

I had long hair. Rebellion as a teen, for a lady as an adult, might grow it again if I feel like it.

I laugh at man buns, but I mock the tight t shirt & boy shorts hipster clothing too. Don't get me Going on LAPD pants, the loose pants with the underwear butt hanging out. ( my term for all the cop chase tv show folk who try & run, trip & fall on their pants look.) Obviously a police plot to encourage fashion that makes kids easier to catch!

But.... I had that room mate that refused to get his long greasy hair cut to get a job. Actually got SSI, after convincing a shrink he was mentally unwilling to work for a living.

I've never really minded getting that "get a job" interview haircut. One time I walked into an old timer's barber shop and announced I liked to give a barber a hippie for his birthday, told him I had a job interview, and got a Marine high & tight cut, with pencil mustache trim, while the hangers on laughed & joked. He had Esquire magazine, and the City police went there for Inspection haircuts. Got the job.

The fresh cut gives you that extra boost, life is different! You are Ready! This is Serious!

Another time the pre-interview haircut was the last one for five years. Once hired, no one cared, others had pony tails, and a fresh short cut is a great way to start a fresh growth. Also met my fiancee with the buzz cut, ( she was a bit spooked at first glance, initially thought I was a jock ) and she encouraged the long look.

Long hair is still a statement for many, even as the normal changed to accept it.

I'm a rebel, pirate, biker, viking, pansy, what-ever. Own it.

Hair is short today for ease, comfort, & since I'm studying composite Rutan style aircraft construction, practical.

Back when my 2 boys were in their teens, they both sported long hair. Down to the shoulders long. Meaningless rebellion on their part. Instead of forcing them to get it cut, I just told them that if they kept it clean, I really didn't care how long it was. Took all the fun out of rebelling. Both kids today are in their 20's. One wears a flat top and the other a buzz cut.

Even the best of us have to grow up someday.

I wore very, very big side burns until my late 30's. Think bigger than Gen. Ambrose Burnside. The were bright red and glorious! Now they stop about mid ear and are gray. Even the best of us have to grow up someday.
