U.S. Steel to invest $750 million to revitalize flagship Gary plant in wake of Trump tariffs
By Robert Channick - Chicago Tribune, August 16, 2018

The U.S. Steel Corp. plant in Gary is seen Oct. 11, 2007. U.S. Steel has announced it is investing $750 million into the 110-year-old plant.
(John Smierciak / Chicago Tribune)

U.S. Steel announced Thursday that it is investing $750 million to revitalize its flagship Gary plant to gear up for increased demand in the wake of President Donald Trump’s tariffs on imported steel.

The company said the investment will make “significant upgrades” to increase efficiencies at the 110-year-old Northwest Indiana plant, which is U.S. Steel’s largest, employing 3800 workers.

The investment in the Gary plant is part of a $2 billion asset revitalization program at Pittsburgh-based U.S. Steel. The five-year Gary project will include building expansion and the installation of new production equipment and technology.

[snip]

U.S. Steel Corp. President and CEO David Burritt credited favorable trade policies on steel imports as instrumental to the company’s facility modernization program.

“We are pleased to be making this significant investment at Gary Works, which will improve the facility’s environmental performance, bolster our competitiveness and benefit the local community for years to come,” Burritt said in a news release.

“We are experiencing a renaissance at U.S. Steel,” he added.

Earlier this year, U.S. Steel announced it was restarting two blast furnaces and hiring 800 workers at a previously idled steel plant in downstate Granite City, near St. Louis. President Trump visited the Illinois plant last month to celebrate its reopening as “a great victory" and a sign that his protectionist trade policies were working.

[snip]

Located on the southern shore of Lake Michigan, Gary Works is U.S. Steel’s largest manufacturing plant, with an annual raw steelmaking capability of 7.5 million net tons. The facility makes sheet products, strip mill plate in coils and tin products.

“Today’s news is a major step forward that will have a lasting positive impact on the city of Gary, the northwest region and the state of Indiana for years to come,” Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb said in the release.

Freight Haulers Order 450,000 New MAGAnomic Big Rigs in 2018 – Backlog for Delivery Extends into 2019
CTH - Aug 17, 2018

Freight-hauling trucks are like the lymphatic system within a healthy economy. As the [country] needs to move stuff around, it’s the truckers who git-r-done; and no time in U.S. economic history has there been such a demand for haulers.

In a stunning Wall Street Journal Report they note analyst group ACT Research says manufacturers are on track for 450,000 orders for heavy-duty trucks this year, easily breaking a 14-year-old record. In July alone, North American fleets ordered more than 52,000 trucks, the largest order in history:

quote:

(Via WSJ) An unprecedented run of orders for big rigs has pushed the backlog at truck factories to nine months, according to industry analysts, the largest since early 2006, when truckers stocked up to get vehicles in place before tougher environmental restrictions would take effect. Typically the backlog is about five months for the truck industry’s manufacturers, analysts said.

https://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2018/08/j ohn_brennan_give_it_a_rest_already.html

Brennan lied to you and Congress, about spying on..... You & Congress.

But the security clearance removal is a Big F..ing Deal, ( in the words of Joe Biden.) Not because of a person's ability to assist the Administration with opinions, but because these retired Government employees need the security ratings to get paid serious money by Lockheed and other companies that offered them jobs as bribes for approving big contracts or covering up crimes.

You don't go to a Brennen or a Comey and hand them a check for $10,000 with "bribe for not prosecuting us" in the comment line. That happens to be.... A Crime. What you do, is you or a minion meet with the Head of the FBI or minion like Strzok, and promise a job paying hundreds of thousands a year, meeting & greeting military procurement officers, terrorists, foreign ministers, basically the same folk you pressured when in office, to get them to buy expensive equipment, or allow a pipeline, or avoid prosecution, same stuff you did for Bush, or Obama, but with much better hours and pay.

But without your security clearance? They can't use you. The law requires all the people selling Luckup drones to have clearances. It's secret stuff!

No clearance, no bribe/job.

THAT'S why there's an outcry over pulling the clearances from these lying sacks who are getting Americans and Allies killed by leaking stuff to CNN, to make themselves look connected, and, hurt, Trump.

Because it steals their Deep State Revolving Door ticket to riches.

Lockheed, Wells Fargo, etc. can't use, and have a legit excuse to not hire, people they bribed with promises of future high paying jobs.

And stripped of their usefulness, how can a Comey or a Mueller demand the bribes they earned by covering up massive crimes like bank or Wall Street fraud, the Clintons and millions in bribes, Obama's campaign taking hundreds of millions from Syria & the UAE?

It's not like they are going on the Sunday morning talk shows or telling Morning Joe, "When I violated my oath and covered up the bribery by Putin's minions to Hillary, I was supposed to get $17 million for a pretend job at one of Soros's international agitation companies, but that bastard Trump pulled my clearance and all those bribes evaporated! Damn it! My leaks killed 2500 American soldiers and Allies troops, and it was all for nothing! I don't get a dime!" ?

And now you know....The rest of the story.

I get all that. But I fail to see how they have the stones to complain about it in public.

You don't work for Company X anymore.

They take your keys, so you can't get in or gain access to the company anymore.

It's fairly basic employment law, IMO. Don't work there anymore? You don't get any of the priveliges of working there. Period. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200. Do not start a book tour. Do not collect dirty money. Get a job like the rest of us.

Reindog, it's my call: I simply choose not to engage.

President Trump's record of accomplishment so far re: Making America Great Again is yugely impressive, especially considering the Deep Machine (which includes the Deep Media (i.e., Fake News, i.e., the "Media Coalition" )) he's up against.

Most of the stuff I post here on this thread of late chronicles (just some) of these accomplishments. By every metric, our president's positions and policies have been yugely beneficial to Main Street Americans. (A conservative political pundit remarked the other day, "Were the past four presidents even trying?!?" That's a damn good question.)

President Trump has already followed through on nearly every promise he made as Candidate Trump, and the few key planks of his campaign not yet achieved are not a result of not trying; unlike our previous pResident, P45 is behaving, well, presidential (read: by the book), rather than dictatorial, in carrying out his agenda.

I appreciate reasoned debate. I have neither the time, energy or desire, however, to wrestle in the mud.

Mind the gap. : )

Opinion: Trump's policies could enable America's economy to outpace China's
By Steven W. Mosher, Fox News - Aug 19, 2018

The great engine of American capitalism is once again firing on all cylinders, as shown by the 4.1 percent annualized growth of America’s gross domestic product (GDP) in the second quarter of this year.

Most Americans (with the exception of Democrats in Congress) are celebrating the good economic news. There is quiet rejoicing in many European and Asian capitals as well, since their mostly sluggish economies will now be drawn along in America’s powerful wake.

But there is one capital where the American economic renaissance is definitely not welcome news. Consternation reigns in China, where President Xi Jinping is nervously watching his “China Dream” of dominating the United States go up in smoke.

You see, surprising though it may sound, America’s economy may now be growing at a faster clip than China’s. And this changes everything.

Until recently, the Chinese economic juggernaut seemed unstoppable. Once China joined the World Trade Organization in 2001, its GDP exploded. Unfettered access to American markets – combined with predatory trade practices – allowed China to grow an economy only one-tenth the size of America’s to one nearly two-thirds as large.

[snip]

China’s rise seemed so inexorable that in 2016 Bloomberg News even predicted the exact year that America’s economy would be eclipsed by China’s. It was a virtual mathematical certainty, its analysts calculated, that in 2027 the Chinese dragon would overtake the American eagle and never look back.

The prediction was based on two seemingly reasonable assumptions: First, that China would continue to grow its economy at 6.5 percent a year. Second, that America would struggle to maintain the anemic 2 percent growth of the 0bama years.

Both assumptions have been dramatically proven wrong.

Under the Trump administration, the American economy is rising like a phoenix from the ashes of the over-regulation, over-taxation and bad trade deals that had threatened to suffocate it.

China’s economic growth, on the other hand, is slowing under the burden of an aging population, massive corruption, unproductive investment and excessive debt. Add to this the growing risk that Chinese products will be gradually pushed out of their major export market – the United States – and you have the risk of a full-blown economic meltdown in China.

[snip]

While America under President Trump is lightening the regulatory and tax burdens that have hindered economic growth, China is attempting to spend its way out of its self-inflicted economic malaise. The only Chinese sector that has been performing well in recent years is exports, and here President Trump is determined to make the Chinese pay for its rampant cheating of the past.

The bottom line is this: The 21st century may not belong to China after all. In fact, may well turn out to be the second American Century.

Hatred has been a winning strategy for the Left since the early days.

Don't forget, Hitler's minions were hoping for a race war in the US, as were the Soviets, the Red Chinese, and The Klan Party, as recently as 2 seconds ago. Putin & Xi both still make noises about how racist America is, both as propaganda to reduce the number of their bright folk leaving for here, and to stir up trouble.

If you gathered all the white power nuts up and put them in a stadium, then had them separate by Party affiliation, I bet you'd see the same trend since the 1860's. You wouldn't have trouble playing a NFL game, and probably still not have a full stadium.

The Dem Party policy of accusing others for the sins they commit is old news. But, unfortunately, effective for internal propaganda. If you think Trump is Hitler, and the Media tells you Republicans want slavery.... you are probably gullible and ignorant enough to buy into it.

Stupid hate filled people are wonderful weapons for evil men.

Actually.......

Marxism is, when you strip away the lies, a tool to move up the human dominance chain.

That's why they cannot tolerate being challenged. Their ideas are lies, there's no there, there. They cannot win on merit. Only fury and bluff. If you don't back down they lose status in their pack. Expect violence. Incompetent, foolish, violence. Their status wasn't won in a Darwinian arena. It's lies and imaginary accomplishment.

It's why they need a safe space if they cannot beat on the weak.

I cannot overstate how nasty "liberals" get when they find out that I'm not a Russian bot, but a real immigrant alien of the legal kind and an ethnic minority that believes in themselves, in the Constitution as written, the Bill of Rights as intended, and in personal responsibility over collectivist concerns. They literally lose their minds.

I can totally understand how legal immigrants like yourself can get torqued up about all the illegals these days. I was fortunate enough to be born here, to "native" US citizens, and all the illegals piss ME off. I can't imagine how it feels to someone who took the time, did the work, and made something of themselves while doing it the right way.

I just wish the GOP would get a knee-jerk word track when it comes up, on camera, every time - "we're not against immigration, you're right, immigrants made this country great. What we're against is ILLEGAL immigration." And leave it at that. Make it sink in, every time they're on camera or in an interview or at a rally.

Another word track that needs to become knee-jerk:

"American citizens don't get to keep their children with them in prison either. It's PRISON. Has nothing to do with citizen status - break the law, go to jail, and yes, your family also has to pay the price for your actions. So THINK TWICE."

They say what needs to be said quite frequently...it just gets drown out in propaganda. Despite the attempts to drown out the message...rational people understand.

I feel fortunate to not be swayed by the simplistic emotional appeals to the baser instincts. That's ultimately what separates us from less evolved life forms. It's a simple matter of critical thought over "critical theory."

Everyone “knows” that a Republican like John Cox can’t be elected Governor in California because the state is just too blue, right?

Well, the people of Maryland, Massachusetts, Illinois, or Maine might not know that. Each of those states elected a Republican governor even though they are as blue, or even bluer, than California.

Conventional wisdom was wrong in these other states for the same reason it is wrong in California. Voters [in these states] didn’t elect a Republican politician, they elected an outside businessman who happened to be a Republican.

That’s just what John Cox is. He’s not a politician, he’s a successful businessman who has personally created hundreds of jobs and will right California’s fiscal ship, starting with repealing the gas tax that is killing the state’s middle class. And Cox will force the left-wing legislature to curb profligate spending.

No matter how great the R candidate for Governor is, there is very little chance that guy wins. There are just too many low information / brainwashed voters in LA, San Fran and San Diego and those population centers have far more people than the more conservative areas of the state. It just is about impossible for an R to win that state.
