http://www.breitbart.com/news/feathers-fly-as-chic ken-shortage-shuts-kfcs-across-britain/

This went here because it's a failure in meta technology.

During & after WW2 some smart people tried to change how manufacturing worked. Multiple aspects to this revolution, one was called "just in time". Post war American companies generally didn't jump on the bandwagon, so some folk went to Japan, where they were rebuilding everything and were open to new ideas.

The rest is history.

After the Japanese car makers and other industries started to seriously challenge U.S. companies that hadn't improved productivity, these new methods did get adopted here.

Just in time is simple in concept. Why have warehouses full of parts you are going to use to assemble cars? (Or....anything?) Why pay for the parts you don't need, yet? Why rent or pay property taxes on warehouse space? If you know or guess you are going to make 50 cars/whatever a day, 5 days a week, you order 50 parts a day, to be delivered daily. Sure, you're putting the need to rent warehouse space onto your suppliers, but profits go up!
There were and are teething problems with these ideas. If your dash bracket supplier is late it stops the line. Big problem. You work this kind of thing out over time and in some cases accept that you need some surge/backup storage and inventory. Over the screaming bean counters who usually adopt money saving ideas as religious dogma.

Today the 7-11 has programmed automatic deliveries weekly or more often. The computer knows the store sold 17 jars of peanut butter, and that gets loaded on the cart to go to that store. Expand that to all the stuff they sell, & you've got modern retail.

Kentucky Fried Chicken does much the same. A combination of A.I. algorithms, trial & error experience, & marketing smarts orders the food sent to each store.

There's no chicken shortage. This is the delivery company screwing up and costing it's customer a fortune. Not doing all the employees any good to not get hours & paid either.

This isn't the first time this kind of thing happened. Won't be the last. I'm tempted to blame DHL but I'm biased ( not prejudiced, there's a real difference ) & will just say they weren't ready for the job they bid on.

More importantly they didn't have a backup plan, and aren't prepared to outsource part of the job until they catch up to the new responsibility.

Take this as a lesson in management. How not to make friends.

"Fossil fuels are cool again!"

What a great idea. Should we be buying fossil fuel stocks? The "Daily Caller" ...

Then there is always this from the same article,"Further, Soros founded and operates his own climate change advocacy group called the Climate Policy Initiative. He pledged to give at least $100 million in 2009 to the institute over ten years and in 2015 he gave $26.5 million to the group, according to his latest filing with the Internal Revenue Service.

Of course Soros has little/nothing to do with climate change unless the goal is to reduce science to partisan politics<grin>.

Better to look at the polar ice cap over a few decades.

"Better to look at the polar ice cap over a few decades."

I hope you meant a few millennia. A few decades isn't a wide enough window to establish a trend. That sort of myopia is a large part of the problem with climate science. When you zoom out on the graph, the current temperature isn't so scary. In fact, it's not scary at all.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/2018/02/21/drug s-do-work-anti-depressants-should-given-million-br itons/

As we argue the problem of mass murder suicide and notice that despite lies from the anti civil rights folk that fire arms haven't changed a lot in a century but mood drugs have...... and are involved in most of the cases.

We get this well funded push to drug England.

Before you get excited and tell me how giving your kid speed or focasin has improved their grades and lives, & how damnitall has been a life saver for you, I do get it. These are potent and powerful drugs.

Despite the fact that the base philosophy is to numb you down and shut you up with these brain chemistry changers ( considered the win by the makers ) some people really respond well to adjustment. Life saving miracles of magic and science.

Unfortunately there's that magic part. Your neighbor may thrive on drug Y. Your cousin didn't see any difference. And you might get disassociated and sleep walk through burning the orphanage and panda rescue center.

Because this is not a mature science. Everyone is the unique snow flake on the genetics biochemistry side.

Big buck are behind this advertisement to get the government to buy these drugs. Lots more drugs. Everyone should be on drugs!

And thus reality makes science fiction look conservative in predicting the apocalypse.

http://www.breitbart.com/tech/2018/02/22/australia n-professor-writes-about-the-horrors-of-heterosexu ality/

Now heterosexuals must be cured.

An award winning novel The Forever War, about a future war dragged out over centuries by relativistic time dilation, follows the first group sent out to fight. Every time they return civilization has changed and they, the most experienced veterans, are sent back out to fight again. And again.

On one return they find heterosexuality is illegal. Originally a Green movement ploy to reduce over population, homosexuality is mandatory, and the vets are offered to be cured, or be sent back out to fight again and to preserve society.

I wasn't expecting it in my lifetime.

Yes. And there was a shot that would make you gay. And another that would make you straight. This implies homosexuality can be cured. Not a PC book.

Not at all. Written by a Vietnam veteran.

It's an original premise. The gay world thing is a small part of it.

As a commentary on the treatment of returning veterans, first rate. Much doesn't seem exaggerated anymore.

As to gayness being curable, choice or genetics, I have no opinion. I observe humans and their various aspects usually plot on a bell curve. I think the division of human sexuality is a ploy of those who exploit. Much of the research seems suspect.

But I'm on record as mocking the "soft sciences". It's not all political bull, or near religious dogma based on charismatic leaders. But much is.

And there are questions I'm not sure you want answered. If as some claim, there's a "gay gene" then there are 2 potentially harmful results.

1. A person might feel forced into relationships they don't really want, or vice versa. "You've got the gene, you shouldn't marry that girl you love." Will we deny any agency of self? No individual choice? You are your gene chart and nothing more? How dehumanizing.

2. Parents will be able to choose to have kids with this gene or not. Imagine the pressures and hostility. The mind boggles. We already have issues with choice based on genetic testing. ( Downs syndrome ) even choosing the sex of your child has problems. ( China's sex imbalance. Too many men, not enough women. There will be war. )

While intellectually and theoretically we approve of genetic choice for diseases. ( but not completely ) We haven't had to deal, yet, with parents being able to choose athletic ability or looks or sexual preference.

Expect more arguments. Movements. Propaganda. And violence.

https://www.thedailybeast.com/did-these-computer-s cientists-solve-the-cuban-sonic-attack

I've had issues with ultrasound surveillance gizmos before. Even automatic door opener noise. The funny part is decades of loud living, rock concerts to machine shops, has battered my hearing so you'd expect me not to notice these noises. Maybe the ringing in my ears hetrodynes with the spy beams? : )

I'd say bad Soviet engineering of bugs makes more sense than attacking U.S. diplomats in Havana with a new weapon. A hypothetical sonic weapon would be used in Syria or Chechnya with less chance of revealing itself than in an Embassy. ( the possibility that Russians consider State dept employees snowflakes whose complaints would be ignored amuses me )

“This characteristic has recently been exploited to stereotactically and noninvasively produce focal lesions in the treatment of movement disorders.”

Doctors in India recently burned a neural pathway in the brain of a Parkinson’s disease patient, instantly stopping the tremors. Pretty cool.

2018, the Warmest Year On Record (reg trademark)

Why wait? You know they are going to say it about 2019, 2020, etc. Unless they think you've forgotten warming, and then they will be back to dire warnings about the Ice Age... like back in the 1970's.
