Wow. That's nice. I don't think I'm backing out on my purchase now. I'm sure the shop would be against putting a pre-recall gun back into inventory.

More 'gun violence'. The kind we need more of.

Umm...If it's a Mark IV there aren't any "pre-recall" guns. Only Mark IV models made after 6/1/17 are not subject to the recall.

Right. To be precise mine's a recall gun...for sale prior to the recall announcement.

You know what I mean...

Antis will always paint it as a potential reformed citizen who's life was unduly ended.

I think anyone with an inclination to use armed force coercion and intimidation to get their point across, should be subject to meeting their ultimate demise by the same.

I'm planning on going to the range Wednesday. Need to dial in the scope on the Savage MKII in .22LR. Pop off some 5.56 at 100 yards to make sure the 11.5" barrel is printing right. Still not sure if I'm going to shoot a pistol while there.

Why Not? Bring as many guns and ammo as can be carried.

In three long weeks I finally pick up my 9mm AR upper. The front sight block will need modification and the barrel will be getting sent out for a chop to roughly nine and a half inches.

Not enough hours in the day. I want to work on different loads in these two. As much fun as it is to fire the hand cannon. I may try it at 100 yards. But I need to get info on the .22LR.
Range rules require 1 second between shots.

They should have designated the school a gun free zone. Maybe put up a few signs.

If any area is to be designated "gun free" it should be enforced through metal detector screening by guards. Why are schools less secure than court houses?

If not, let those who legally choose to be armed, do so.

"...shooting indiscriminately inside the school until a janitor approached him and ordered him to surrender..."

"If not, let those who legally choose to be armed, do so."

I don't know, but had was the janitor armed? In my former chosen profession (I'm retired L.E.) I trained a lot of cops, and school and mall security in active-shooter scenarios. After, and especially because of, Columbine, the mind-set was changed from 'containment' to 'rapid elimination' of active shooters.

I'm looking for a new scope to put on the bolt action .22LR. A Savage MARK-II TR 22LR (25745). My thoughts have been mil-dot or BDC. 40 or 50 mm lens on the big end. 150 to 200 on the dollars. I like numbers on the outsides of the turrets. Most likely targets will be 50 to 150 yards. I will lap the scope rings and mount a level on the scope to use while shooting. Up in the air on magnification. 3x9 or 4x? maybe a 24x or higher fixed? Most likely to remain a toy. I have a quiet .22 pellet rifle for turning off lights and an AR for real work. Any things I should consider?

Redfield Revolution Tac 3-9x may be a good one...but they're going for around $280.

Looks like it is going to be a Nikon 3-9x40 BDC.

It's a good one.

I can't get over the plastic turret caps on those.

Plastic, I know, and no numbers on the outside of the turrets. I found a new one for $119.95 with free shipping. It will be fun working up a chart for the BDC at different magnifications. I kept hearing about the clarity of Nikon's glass. Should be here tomorrow. Then an excuse for another range trip.

I've been looking at 45-70 as a long range cartridge. Looks capable, but incredibly challenging.

The sights used for such an application are quite expensive.

I'm all tacticooled out, at the moment.

Opinions here.

If you are going lever guns, .454 Casull vs. .45-70. Mid range is quite comparable with the .454 having a larger round count in the lever gun. Added bonus of using .45LC if you are willing to do the extra cleaning of the gun so the .454 will chamber right afterwords.

Now loading in a single shot rifle. There are some bullets in .45-70 that will smoke anything the .454 offers for long range.

Holding that puppy level while shooting long range becomes key. I'm playing with .22LRs for a little while longer.

Black powder cartridge competition is amazing. No ballistic computers, rainbow trajectories, steel targets at absurd ranges. Art.

Remington or Sharps or..... rifles with globe sights. Also art.

The Quigley match is on my bucket list but I doubt I'll get good enough to ever try. Just seeing a steel pig at 800 yards. .......

Definitely 45-70. That's to start. A nice rolling block reproduction perhaps? If you get the bug you'll know what you want next, 45-110 or some other buffalo killer.

A friend hunts chuck with an original .50-70 Sharps. Black powder only. Thumb sized bullets you can actually see arcing across the field and bowling the ground hog over. I've spotted for him. 300+ yard shots.

Why not .454? Great cartridge. Big game capable in a 1892 clone. Revolver cartridge so you can pack deer/elk/black bear solid hunting performance on your hip and over your shoulder.

But you'll have a hard time finding a lever action happy with feeding a .45 Colt well too. You might, the Rossi is a solid rifle.

And .454 isn't very common. It's available but you might have to order it. Not Wal-Mart stuff. Not cheap.

Better to run cowboy gear in .45 Colt. Lots of choices. Much easier on wallet and wrist. And deer fall right down. People too. Well over a century of proven. The heck with modern magnum mania.

Or you can go compatibility play with .44 S&W Special/.44 Colt/.44 Russian if you're into that.

Or .44 or .357 magnum. ... or.....
