I admit I haven't been paying much attention.... then I find they are going to unite Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Daredevil & Iron Fist. Not "Earth's Mightiest Heroes" united to save the planet. The Burroughs of New York's misfits thrown together, quite by accident.

I'm going to have to subscribe now and watch all this stuff to catch up, darn them.

Jessica Jones is a tough, strong, women who can fly hard drinking, short fused hot mess of a woman.

With reason. This is very dark stuff, and really rated R. Seriously, don't let 5 years olds watch this.

I'm looking forward to this.

The original Defenders was Dr. Strange, Valkyrie, Hulk, and the Sub Mariner, if I recall correctly. I'm not at all familiar with this iteration of the team.

I haven't read DC comics since I was.... eight? Back then I didn't like Marvel because they were ongoing soap operas. The DC comics had a villain, fight, ending each month and once you knew who the characters were, no need to keep up.

In college my girlfriend was a Marvel fan & I caught on to the joys of episodes with continuity and long running plot arcs. It was the self awareness of the Marvel writing. Some characters knew they were fictional and broke the fourth wall to comment on the idiocy of the villain's rants. ( inevitably with the villain asking who they were talking to, with a "never mind" & return to butt kicking )

So I haven't been following the DC stuff. Supergirl is decent & the lead actor perfectly cast.... but I'm seasons behind. The Batman trilogy just ended wasn't my cup of tea. ( I did like The Dark Knight graphic novel that inspired them ) I liked Man Of Steel despite the parts that were annoying to me. Batman vs. Superman was enjoyable too.... mostly because of Wonder Woman & a surprising job by Ben Affleck. Far from perfect but...... to be honest any good attempt at bringing comics to the big screen is fun. ( as long as the super suit isn't green, or animated )

& Suicide Squad. Full props to Margo Robbie & Will Smith. I loved it. Perfect? Not even close. But a buddy who's a gun Smith offered to customize a Rhino for me.

We live in a golden age when the special effects can finally do justice to the comics. And I find it amazing how Suicide Squad, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and others have embraced practical effects. ( not cgi- wires & hard core stunt work )

Opinions? Flames?

Plus a shout out.

Hidden Figures.

Go see it in the theater. Forget the politics of now. Appreciate the period piece it is. Worth the trip.

I have always been a comic geek! My mom even bought me several of the oversized issues back in the 70's... got a Shazam jumbo that might be worth some $$$ if I hadn't scribbled in it and torn the cover.

I thoroughly enjoyed "Jessica Jones". Yes, R rated, but in a way that was quite refreshing. The villain (can't recall his name) is superb, GREAT character acting throughout.

Heck, I even had some latter day comics in a "2099" storyline- Spiderman, Ghost Rider (my fave), IIRC there were others... thinking back, my love of those comics probably REALLY helped me learn to read, and read fast. My GF and her brother say I should try out for Jeopardy, but I'm not quite that smart... it'd be fun though!

Might fire up Netflix and watch some Luke Cage tonite... he did a great job in the JJ series.

When it comes to Heroes, I preferred the Hero hunter -Marshal Law (certainly not suitable for 5 year olds)

I really liked ol Howard the duck.
I tended to follow trencher. Cant remember who wrote and distributed that one tho. I'll have to see if I still have some of those.

Big Howard the Duck fan. Loved how he had to wear pants when Disney sued because THEY owned the irritating duck with a suit and cute butt.

They actually put in the comic that he had to wear pants now because of some agency complaining about decency.

I'm getting to appreciate my Netflix account more and more... that Iron Fist looks pretty good! If it's 2/3 as good as Jessica Jones, I'm in.

As a kid, the Sub-Mariner was a fave. Aquaman was OK, but not nearly as cool as SM.

Watched X-Men Apocalypse the other night- it was better than I expected.

I loved the "Slow Walk" trope with Jean Grey near the end.

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheSlow Walk

Yeah, there's a little overacting, but it's hard to do the "mindscape" bits that don't look silly or overblown. I give them a solid "B" despite them trying to cram too much plot in.

And Quicksilver's big scene is, again, the show stealer.

Many complain about these movies & shows being... "not cannon". Not the way it was in the comics.

Fair, but understandable. Take Jessica Jones & her arch villain, "The Purple man". Initially they considered using purple makeup for the actor, but the series is set in a "realistic" gritty world. No one reacts to a purple guy in comics, but in real Harlem? It would break the suspension of disbelief. You buy Jessica & Luke, etc. despite the impossibility, because they don't ask you to believe too much.

So Killgrave may be impeccably dressed with odd taste, but that's not going to create any calls to 911. A purple guy might go unremarked in Greenwich Village. Not the Bowery.

And in the X-men series they did a time travel reset with "Days Of Future Past", so we get, oddly, a version of the X-men that's actually closer to the comics than earlier movies.

Me, I'm just happy they make these. Oh, I'll complain, but this is a golden age of Comic Book Movies.

https://moviepilot.com/p/fox-announcement-firefly- reboot/4205317

Firefly was a partial season wonder, where Fox brilliantly showed the show out of sequence and then only 11 of the 14 episodes made before canceling it.

Love it or hate it, ( I was a fan ) it was Space Cowboys with Ex-Rebels and most ironically, a plot like that promised for the Original Star Trek.

Roddenberry sold the show as "Wagon Train in Space" since westerns were big at the time.

Firefly WAS exactly that. With big Corporation Conspiracies, big Government Conspiracies, big Crime Lord.......

I have to say it had the best cast ever.

I'm not holding my breath. But I might watch Serenity again, later.

Saw Logan.

Deserves multiple Oscars and not for costumes.

Don't even think this is a kids movie. It's not Deadpool either.

Gritty. Hard. Well done.

Possibly Jackman's best work.

See in theater.

I'll pre order the blu-Ray.

Thanks for the tip. I've gotta REALLY be convinced to pay the big $$$ the theaters want, PLUS deal with the high probability that some dipshit will have to futz with their phone, which INFURIATES me. Not to mention they generally don't allow any bags in, so I can't smuggle in my own popcorn and drinks...

OK, sorry, rant off. So far I've read/heard nothing but good about this flick- now I gotta see if the GF feels like watching all the blood and gore...

I'm lucky. There's a theater in Fitchburg that does $6.00 matinees for Seniors. I think I'll take in the 1:00 PM show on Monday.

I've heard good things about Logan from a few different sources. This latest from Aesquire is the one that has pushed me into going.

I'd better go on Monday; Tuesday, we're supposed to get 12+ inches of snow with 40+ MPH winds. There's nothing like a good Nor'easter to make life interesting. (and to really make me want to move to Cincinnati ASAP)

Not for kids, or those who are squeamish. Very very very violent.

Squids, see if there is an Alamo Drafthouse near you, they are very strict about their no talking and no texting rule.

I'm not one for comic based movies, but I have to say it was awesome.

I'll see Logan when it comes out on disc.

I've been on the fence about Deadpool, but if you say so, I'll check it out. My GF will probably hate it and go to bed early though.

I tried to get her to watch "Captain Fantastic" with me, but the opening scene shut her down. : (

Deadpool was great.

Ryan Reynolds pet project makes up for the abomination the first Wolverine movie made Deadpool at the end. ( the earlier scenes with Wade Wilson were good though ) Reynolds fought to get this film made and budget limits don't really hurt it.... they even mock them.

In some ways a standard origin story. Saved from cliche by the irreverent character and willingness to mock it's own genre. Yet being true to the classic forms.

R rated for violence and sex.... Morena Baccarin is nigh a goddess playing the Soiled Dove, and if you could marry a fictional girl...... you wouldn't deserve her. Damn.

Plus best title scene ever. In jokes throughout. Not for children.

Just got back from taking Niece & her BFF to Logan. College girls, comic geeks.

BFF had tears running down her face.

Niece declared it "All the stuff I wanted in a Wolverine Movie, In A Wolverine Movie"

It IS VIOLENT. But that part of it is true to the character.

We've got Guardians Of The Galaxy 2, and Wonder Woman this year, plus Ghost In The Shell.

I also recommend the "Atomic Blonde" trailer, but won't post it here... not family friendly. Probably will wait for disc for that one, but looks good.

Finally went to see Logan on Saturday. Gory as hell, but it was totally engrossing. Definitely worth seeing. If you haven't seen it, and you do go, don't wait through the credits for the teaser scene. It ain't there. A bunch of us sat there until the very end of the credits, only to realize we had wasted our time.

Also, I may have missed it, but I didn't see a Stan Lee cameo.
