I would love another AR, but a Mini 14 has me nostalgic...

I have one of these in the safe:

I never take it out, however, because it's black and scary looking... : (

I thought about doing something similar to my Mini 14 but when I throw it to my shoulder I'm instantly looking down the peep site. The gun is so accurate and has never jammed once in all the time I've owned it I'm just going to leave it alone. The stainless and wood are just perfect, I just can't change it. Now I might get a used one and do that, it's very cool! Looks a little like my FN-FAL!!

"In Texas in 2012, the last year the data is available, 120 permit holders were convicted of misdemeanors or felonies – a rate of 20.5 per 100,000, still just a sixth of the rate for police."

The M1A Scout is nice.

This is a little cooler, though a lot unobtainium-er:

By the way, if someone has a lot of .223 / 5.56 ammo and is looking for an addition / alternative to the AR, Ruger is now making the GunSite Scout in 223. Also the Mossberg MVP is pretty cool. Shoots .223 / 5.56 and accepts AR magazines. I haven't shot either of these rifles but I have heard good things about them.

The Ruger Scout isn't a perfect version of the Col. Jeff Cooper idea, but it's close.

He'd probably have dismissed the .223 version as not powerful enough, since the idea was to have a gun capable of one shot stops on anything you ran into, but IF he was alive today he'd probably approve it as a practice version because of the ubiquity of the AR platform & ammo.

http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-lgbt-g uns-pink-pistols-20200809-snap-story.html

......It’s a stark contrast to how the overwhelming majority of LGBT activists and organizations responded to the Orlando massacre, which has sparked calls within the community for gun control.

In the wake of the shooting, some gay bars like the Abbey in West Hollywood beefed up security. The same day as the Orlando mass shooting, L.A.’s annual gay pride parade was rattled after a heavily armed man en route to the event was arrested.

For all the anxiety Orlando has caused, many gay activists say becoming armed is not the answer.

“Some people say you need a gun to protect yourself from the bad guys. We just fundamentally disagree with that,” said Rick Zbur, executive director of Equality California. “We don’t want to live in a world where you have to be packing heat to live your daily life.”

But for a small subset of the community, Orlando has become a call to arms.

When the firearms instructor at the range near Piru asked each person in the class why he or she was there, Fischer ticked off several reasons and mentioned the Pink Pistols.

“What is the Pink Pistols group?” a man asked.

There was a pause.

“We’re — a gay gun group,” Fischer said hesitantly. He tried quickly to explain.

“No, that’s awesome,” the man said, nodding reassuringly.

Notice the difference between the "firearms community" who sees practicality and facing reality a must, and the anti-rights community who lives in denial of what planet they live on.

“Some people say you need a gun to protect yourself from the bad guys. We just fundamentally disagree with that,”

Fine, become expert with a sword. Crossbow too. Or hire armed bodyguards to carry the gun you need to be protected like the child that you are.

“We don’t want to live in a world where you have to be packing heat to live your daily life.”

Well, sure. Are you going to pay me to build spaceships to take you there?

However your make a wish is dishonest.... Because Mr. Zbur, you don't have to be packing heat. You do need to not take away other people's rights because you are emotionally retarded and dishonest. You will be protected by the uncertainty of a bad guy who wants to rob or kill you, if other members of your society ARE armed and ready to protect their fellow citizens.

Take away that uncertainty, and you get this.

http://www.pinknews.co.uk/2016/05/08/small-kids-ma de-to-look-on-as-isis-throws-gay-man-off-building- and-stone-him-to-death/

You want the right to be left alone to live your life Ms. Zbur? Then you better not try and take away other peoples rights.

I'll point out that several high ranking Nazis in Germany were gay. They were just as guilty for the mass murder of German gays in death camps as the straight nazis.

Don't Be that gay Nazi.

To disarm the free is to be complicit in evil.

To disarm yourself is your own prerogative.

Progress!

I've watched agents parked at gun shows. Some patrons make a point of cruising the parking lot & aiming cell phone cameras at the ( always 2 ) guys getting more and more angry.

I never did that. I have commented out loud as I passed them on the way in to a show. "Dog dish hubcaps, radio antennas, body armor, these guys better be cops. I should call the Sheriff and have him check."

If you haven't seen it yet.
Ruger released the Mark IV on September 22.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gq10lkcb2PU

Unlike the Mark III the Mark IV takes about 3 seconds to field strip and about 6 seconds to reassemble.

Let me rephrase that, it's not bad taking it apart, but putting it back together is the pain! I'm sure with more use than I give it it might get better. I used it for squirrel hunting a long time ago but rarely shoot it anymore. My eyesight has left the building! Hitting a squirrel in the head at 30 yards is not going to happen anymore!
Reminds me of my Dad's T-shirt. The older I get the faster I was!

I like the traditional models. The machined vs stamped frame makes it too heavy now.

Once you get used to it the reassembly is no big deal. I've detail stripped mine a few times now.

On another note I just ordered a complete RRA 9mm upper for my SBR build. Being proactive in case panic ensues next month.

Rick, do you even know if there is a weight difference?
The aluminum frame used on the target model is extremely light. Lighter by far than any of the previous stamped frames.
